After being reborn, I tore my future sister–in–law who took over my high–paying job
Chapter 1
My brother’s “it girl” and I ended up
interviewing for the same Fortune 500 gig.

We were neck and neck in the interview scores,
I might have even had a slight edge. But in the
end, I got the big fat rejection, while Tiffany
Hayes snagged the offer. It made zero sense.
My interviewer had even told me I was the best
fit for the position, practically the ideal
candidate.
Then, by some ridiculous stroke of bad luck for
them, I overheard my brother on the phone with
Tiffany.
“Dude, I totally pulled a fast one and set up call
forwarding on her cell. When the HR call came,

I pretended to be her and told them she’d taken
another job.” he was saying, all pleased with
himself. “There was only one opening. She
ditched her spot, and boom, that six–figure
salary is yours…”
So, it wasn’t HR, it was my own brother who’d
screwed me over. I went ballistic, called them
out on their BS. They freaked, scared Tiffany
would lose her job, and even more scared of
getting caught. They drugged me, dragged me
out to the boonies, and buried me alive.
Next thing I know, I’m waking up and it’s the
day of the interview again. This time, I’m going
to make damn sure they don’t stand a chance.

“Hey, Riley, can I borrow your phone to scan
this code? Mine’s dead,” my brother, Jake, said
at the supermarket checkout.

Seeing the familiar supermarket near home, I knew I was back. I was reborn.

Last time, I’d interviewed with my brother’s so- called dream girl, Tiffany Hayes, for a spot at the Fortune 500 company, “GlobalTech.” We’d both done well, but the interviewer seemed way more impressed with me. I was feeling good, dreaming about my career when I was suddenly hit with a rejection, finding out Tiffany got the job.
I went home, defeated, only to get an earful of crap from my brother and my parents. The neighbors chimed in, laughing at how I was all talk. My parents were ashamed, said I’d
embarrassed them, and kicked me out.
I was standing at the curb, dragging my
suitcase when I overheard Jake on the phone with Tiffany:

“Wasn’t that genius? At the store, I swiped her
phone to pay, and while I had it, I set up call
forwarding. Then when they called to offer her the gig, I said she’d taken another offer.”
“There was only one opening. You were just as good as her, they bought it, and you got your dream job…”
I was stunned. I knew my folks always favored
Jake, and he’d always treated me like dirt, but I
never thought they were capable of something
this low. I snatched the phone, confronted him,
and he pretended to be sorry, offering to buy
me a smoothie and apologizing. Then he
drugged me, took me to the woods, and buried
me alive.
“C’mon, Riley, the cashier’s waiting. Get your wallet out and pay for this stuff already,” Jake
snapped, pulling me out of my thoughts.

Last time, I just handed over my phone without thinking, and not only did he mess with it, he
also never paid me back. He used my cash to buy groceries for his lady friend. Not this time.
“Sorry, guys, we’ve decided not to get this stuff anymore,” I said to the cashier, all polite and
sweet.
“What the hell?! This is for the family dinner. Hand over your phone, I need to pay for this!”
He was going to sabotage my career, and then
use my money to buy stuff for his precious
Tiffany? Not on my watch.
I immediately put on a face, looking all sad and
pathetic. “Bro, you know Mom and Dad only
give you spending money. I earn every cent of
mine from my part–time gigs. The boss hasn’t
paid me this month yet. How am I supposed to
cover all this?”

The cashier shot my brother a look of pure disgust, and Jake went all red, obviously feeling embarrassed. Just as he was about to explode,
I pointed to a charging station outside the
store. “Why don’t I charge your phone for you? You can pay when it’s back on, no biggie!”
Jake rolled his eyes, “Forget it!” and stomped
out, leaving the stuff behind.
I smirked, watching him go. This was just the
beginning, brother. I already gave him a taste of
his own medicine. And soon enough, I had no
doubt his precious Tiffany would discover his
two–timing ways.
