Chapter 14
He pulled me into a private security room and locked the door behind us. Ethan loomed over me, blocking my escape as he confronted me.
“Emma, I can’t believe you.

“You’re so petty that you forgot our blood oath and decided to betray the family
that raised you?”
I lifted my chin.
Gathering all my courage, I faced him head–on.
“I have my own path now. Why should I have to live my life according to Moretti orders?
“Ethan, be honest with yourself–are you angry about my betrayal, or because I refuse to be your backup bedwarmer while you pursue Sofia?”
Ethan’s face went pale:
“What are you talking about?
“Don’t say such ugly things.
“We’re family. That night after the successful shipment… wasn’t it consensual? Are you still hung up on one night of passion?”
I felt embarrassed but still met his gaze defiantly:
“Ethan, if you want to form an alliance with the Rossi family, you could have just said so clearly. I wouldn’t have clung to you shamelessly.
“But you clearly don’t see me as an equal, yet you enjoyed watching me serve the family faithfully while thinking I might someday truly belong. Did that feed your ego?”
Even now, he didn’t get it.
People don’t switch loyalties until they’ve exhausted all their hope.
Hit with the truth, Ethan’s face flushed red from its previous paleness. He nearly staggered.
“What are you saying? Listen to yourself… you…”
He stammered, unable to continue.
“Emma, we’ve raised you since you were 8. We’re family.

“Since you’ve chosen to betray this blood bond, I’ll make sure you regret this decision for the rest of your very short life.”

With those final words, he stormed out, slamming the door so hard it cracked the
frame.
