From that day until my official oath ceremony to the Vasquez family, I never saw Ethan again.
Maddie sent me intelligence reports of Ethan and Sofia’s official engagement announcement at a Moretti–Rossi gathering. I deleted it without even reading the
details.
I blocked all Moretti contacts and changed all my security protocols. There was truly no need to keep tabs on my former family anymore.
The only exception was three months later during a territory negotiation, when I
unfortunately encountered Ethan at a neutral location, with Sofia still by his side.
As they passed by, he only nodded coldly to Antonio and stormed off.
He didn’t look at me once.
We quickly moved in opposite directions, neither acknowledging the other. Before departing, I happened to glance sideways and caught Ethan watching me
from the shadows.
He gave me one murderous look, then disappeared without turning back. The person who had raised me since childhood was now my sworn enemy. We were finally on opposite sides of a dangerous game.
So be it. May we never meet on the battlefield.
I said the words silently to myself.
