“What?” Robin’s mind went blank, as if struck by lightning

“I’ve said it before–Constance won’t affect her status. So what is she throwing a tantrum about this time? She’s right there with you, isn’t she? Hand her the phone. I’ll talk to her myself.”
Robin held back the anger boiling inside him, ready to explode the moment Elena’s voice came through.
The staff member double–checked the number on the phone, making absolutely sure there was no mistake before quickly replying, “Mr. Marsh, I’m neither a scammer nor an actor. Ms. Larson has already left.
“If you don’t believe me, just come to the Portler State Court and collect the divorce certificate yourself. You’ll know then if I’m lying.”
Before Robin could say anything, Kane suddenly responded with excitement. “Great! Let’s go! right now!”
He looked at Robin, full of glee, while swinging his hand.
“Dad, let’s hurry to the state court and pick up the divorce certificate. She’s finally leaving this house forever! I can’t wait to tell Constance the good news!”
Just moments ago, Kane had been dragging his feet about getting in the car–but now he jumped in, slammed the door shut, and urged the driver to get going.
Robin’s expression flickered with complex emotions, but he didn’t say a word to refuse. His mind was in chaos. No matter how he tried to make sense of it, he couldn’t believe Elena would really go through with it.
Didn’t she love him and Kane very much? How could she just walk away? What did she want
this time? What was she after now?
Before Robin could fully process everything, the car had already pulled up in front of the state court. After confirming several times that he was indeed the recipient, the clerk handed over the freshly issued divorce certificate.
The glaring official seal couldn’t be faked. Robin stood frozen in place, the certificate in his hands feeling as if it weighed a thousand pounds

“Dad, this is great! We’re finally free. Elena won’t bother us anymore!”
Robin stayed silent for a long while; his throat felt somewhat dry as he asked, “Kaney, do you really hate her that much?”
Kane looked down and didn’t speak for a moment. Then he snapped stubbornly, “Of course! She’s the person I hate most! It’s good she’s gone! She better not come back, ever.”

ed the divorce certificate tightly. His young face seemed tense, yet there wasn’t a trace of joy in his expression.
“Dad, you don’t seem happy about divorcing Elena. Why? Constance can take care of me just the same,” Kane asked again.
This time, Robin gave him an answer. “Because she was right for the role. Constance… she’s
different.‘
He had never once considered divorcing Elena. Nor had he ever truly considered marrying
Constance.
“Constance is just a stand–in for your mother. No matter what, she could never be my wife. If I married her, it would tarnish the feelings I had for Evangeline.
“Elena isn’t like Evangeline. They’re completely different. She’s just… herself.”
Kane didn’t like that answer. Feeling annoyed, he ran off in a huff.
He didn’t want that woman who killed his mom to be anything to him. He was going to tell Constance the good news right away!
