Before Robin could even finish his explanation, Elena cut him off impatiently, “That’s enough. There’s no point in saying meaningless things anymore.
“I used to long for the day you both would like me too, but now, I have the love of many others. I don’t need yours anymore.”
She was about to continue speaking when, all of a sudden, a billboard overhead broke loose and came crashing down toward her.
“Elena!
“Mommy!”
Both Robin and Kane shouted in alarm and lunged toward her at the same time in a flash. Elena had only taken a step back in time to avoid it.
She was completely unscathed–but Robin wasn’t as lucky. The billboard struck his shoulder, tearing straight through it.
Blood streamed down his arm, soaking through his shirt. He sucked in a breath from the pain, but forced himself to stay upright. He refused to utter a single complaint.
Instead, his first instinct was to check on her. “Elena, are you alright? Are you hurt anywhere?
Kane hovered beside her, frantically scanning for any injuries. “Mommy, please be okay!”
Now that they were risking their lives for her, one might expect Elena to feel moved–but instead, she only found it laughably ironic.
“I’m fine. Robin, you’re the one who needs a hospital.”
Her voice was icy cold, showing no intention of sending him to the hospital.
“I don’t need either of you getting hurt for my sake. What I didn’t get before, I don’t want it
now either.
“You’re not doing this because you love me–you’re just not used to being without me. Sooner or later, there’ll be another woman to take care of you, to dote on you. You’ll get used to it.
“I have no intention of going back to you. I won’t make the same mistake again. Just let me go. Goodbye.”
”
With that, Elena turned around without hesitation and walked away, leaving Robin and Kane behind. She no longer wanted to be entangled in anything meaningless. She especially didn’t want to owe them anything.
Even if they hadn’t jumped in to shield her, she might not have been hurt. And even if she had,
it would’ve been her own bad luck.
It was no one else’s fault. She didn’t need their help..
Robin clutched his bleeding shoulder tightly as he watched Elena walk away. His lips turned pale from the blood loss, but what hurt more than his body was the sharp, twisting pain in his chest. It was cutting him like a blade.
Kane also sobbed silently behind him. Elena truly didn’t want them anymore.
Robin bit down hard on his lip, a wild thought suddenly flashing through his mind. Ignoring the pain from his injury, he took large strides to catch up with her.
He seized both of Elena’s hands and pinned her against the wall. Without a word, he kissed her desperately and frantically, biting and pressing his lips against hers in utter chaos.
In the brief moment between breaths, his hoatse voice murmured beside her ear, “Elena, me, yell at me, hate me and Kane if you must–but don’t leave us!
“There’ll be no other woman. We only want you!
hit
His voice carried deep, crushing sorrow. Elena could even feel a few warm, damp tears fall into the curve of her neck.
Was Robin crying? She never would have imagined that one day, Robin would break down and show weakness in front of her.
His lips and tongue still ravaged hers, trying to steal her breath and reason, trying to pull her back in. He knew exactly what he was doing. He was good at this too good.
But even as he kissed her, Elena’s mind wasn’t clouded with longing. All she could think of were the hickeys on his body–marks left by Constance.
A wave of revulsion surged from deep inside her. She shoved him away with all her strength and bit down hard on his lip.
“Let go of me!”
The taste of blood spread through her mouth. Elena turned aside, gagging from nausea. She looked at Robin warily.
“Don’t touch me! There’s nothing between us anymore. Try that again, and I’ll call the police!”
way
Robin’s eyes filled with hurt. “Elena… Can’t we really go back to the way we were?
“We were so happy before. We’ll give you whatever you and your mother want.”
“There’s no going back, Robin. My mom and I just want one thing now–for you both to leave and never come back.”
She rejected him without hesitation and turned to walk away,

Robin stood rooted to the spot, feeling completely hollowed out.
