With an icy expression, Clifford ordered, “Get out.”
Tiffany pouted and said coquettishly, “We’re a couple now, so what’s wrong with sleeping together?”
Seeing that he remained unmoved, her eyes reddened. “If you chase me out, I’m going to cry!”
Clifford closed his eyes and eventually gave in to her whims..
Tiffany smiled triumphantly before taking out a yellowed letter and a photo album from under the pillow. “Look, Cliff! This is the love letter I wrote for you when I was a young girl and the picture I drew of you!”
She proceeded to excitedly read out the letter to him. “You smiled at me again today. I really like you, Cliff…”
After she had read the entire letter, she hugged Clifford tightly and blissfully nuzzled against him. “I didn’t expect you to like me back. I really am blessed!”
After remaining silent for a long time, Clifford suddenly said, “Let’s get married.”
Tiffany froze and looked up at him. “What?”
Clifford repeated, “Let’s get married, Tiff.”
Tiffany became flustered at that. “Aren’t we moving too quickly-”

“That’s why I kept restraining myself–because I didn’t want to ruin your life.”
Tiffany sobbed, her frame trembling. “Since you knew all that, why did you still agree to be with me?”

Clifford kept his gaze on her as he said softly, “Because I was still holding on to a sliver of hope. I thought that as long as you were willing to be with me, I would stay by your hell or high water. But it’s obvious that you’re not.”
He paused for a moment, then finally ended with, “So, let’s end our relationship.”
Tiffany hugged his arm tightly, soaking his sleeve with her tears. “I don’t want to end it, Cliff
I know that I’m selfish and cowardly, but if you like me, won’t you please just humor me this one time?”
Clifford pried her fingers off his arm one by one as he said in a voice so calm it almost sounded back to cruel, “I can agree to anything but this. Since you’re unwilling, we’ll just have to p being siblings.”
Tiffany suddenly smiled, her face stained with dried tears. “Have you been waiting for this day since the moment you agreed to be with me, Cliff? All those times you went shopping with me, took me out for meals, and made me happy when I was feeling down–were you just humoring me?
“The moment I did something that you didn’t like, you asked to end our relationship. It’s because you’re in a hurry to settle things on my end so that you can seek out Lilibeth, right?
Her voice was shrill–almost sharp enough to pierce one’s eardrums, in fact–as she asked, You’ve fallen for her, haven’t you?”
Clifford stayed silent for a moment before replying, “I’ll indeed go looking for her, and I’m not going to divorce her, but as for whether I like her… I don’t know.”

He gazed out the window as he continued in a low voice, “All I know is that I’ve already grown used to her presence. In the few days that she hasn’t been home, things have felt out of place
to me.”
Tiffany staggered a couple steps back as if she had been drained of all her strength. She suddenly started laughing, and as she laughed, her tears started to fall again.
“She’s not going to come back, Cliff.”
