Chapter 6
Before Holly could speak, Nadine changed the topic. “It’s nothing. You’re here, Jasper. Let’s go.
As she spoke, she walked up to Jasper and held onto his right arm.
However, Jasper didn’t leave. He extended his left hand to Holly. “Come on, Holly. Let’s go
home.”
Everyone’s eyes widened at his actions.
Unperturbed, Holly softly said, “There’s no need. We’re divorced, after all.”
Jasper paused before withdrawing his hand. “Sorry. I forgot. Well, then. I’ll be taking Naddy back. Stay safe on your way back.”
Then, he left with Nadine.
Since the organizer had left, the other guests left one after another.
Someone commented, “Naddy’s truly lucky to have an uncle who dotes on her so much and a husband who treasures her immensely. She has it all!”
Another said, “She’s born with great fortune, so everyone who befriends her will benefit from it. Look at Holly. She’s only been Nadine’s roommate for four years, yet she lived a good life for two years, didn’t she?”
“So what? She still has to return to the slums after her husband sees her true colors. Not only was she left penniless, but she even wasted two years of her life. How foolish!”

Upon hearing the conversation in front of the elevator, Holly paused and went for the stairs.
She had only descended two floors when she heard Jasper’s cold, harsh voice. “Were you one who spread the news about my divorce with Holly? Have you forgotten what I said?”
“It was a slip of the tongue. It’s just something trivial, anyway, yet you’re blaming me for it.”
Jasper’s tone softened immediately when Nadine acted coquettishly. He spoke in a resigned manner. “I’m not blaming you. I told you from the start that I’ll satisfy all your wishes within this one month, but you should never tell anyone about our marriage and my divorce with Holly.”
“It really was a mistake. Can you forgive me, Jasper?”
“You should never do that again.”
Nadine sensed that he was going to overlook the matter, and her eyes lit up. She stood on the balls of her feet. “Jasper, you said you’d satisfy all my wishes. I want to kiss you. Will you let me do that?”
Although the handrails stood in between them, Holly could still see Jasper’s expressions clearly.
He didn’t say if he’d let Nadine kiss him or not, but he couldn’t refrain from putting his arms
around her waist.
Taking that as a yes, Nadine mustered her courage and pecked his lips.
Jasper started breathing heavily, and he pulled Nadine closer to him. “Who said you could kiss me?”

Before she could finish, Jasper started kissing her passionately. At that moment, the feelings that he’d been suppressing for more than a decade were finally unleashed.
Seeing how eager he was, Holly clenched her fists so tight that her nails dug into her palms.
After the voice–activated lighting went out, their heavy breathing became louder.
Biting her lip, Holly could taste the metallic tang of blood. When even her gums started to ache from how hard she was biting down on her lip, she finally walked away with a stiff gait, making no sound as she did.
She walked alone in the night. When she came to her senses, she was already at the rental apartment.
The moment she arrived, she received two photos from Nadine. One showed chafed lips, the other showed a man’s shirt with a lipstick stain.

“Jasper couldn’t refrain from kissing me, you know. I told him it was my first kiss and that I didn’t know how to control my breathing, so he patiently taught me how to do it for hours.
“He was reluctant to stop even after three hours. We kissed all the way from the stairs to the car and finally into our bedroom. He must never have kissed you so intently.”
Nadine was right about that. When Jasper kissed Holly, he was forever polite and sensible.
That was to be expected when one kissed someone whom they didn’t love.
But now, Holly felt nothing at all when she read Nadine’s messages. She knew everything that was going on here would no longer have anything to do with her.
For the next few days, she busied herself packing her belongings. She only left the house when she received the call that her visa and passport were ready.
After receiving her documents, she was about to leave when she bumped into Jasper.
His gaze was fixed on the passport she was holding. “Why have you applied for a passport?”
