Celeste and Damien turned their heads simultaneously when they heard the voice.
A familiar figure suddenly appeared in the line of their sight.
Why was Adrian suddenly back?
“Uncle Adrian, I just got a little carried away…” Damien instinctively released his grip on her.
His brow slightly furrowed when he looked at the man before him.
Adrian shot him an indifferent glance before shifting his gaze to Celeste.
Her eyes happened to meet his.
Their eye contact lasted only for a second before he looked away and turned to look at Damien beside him. “Were you two fighting just now?”
Damien wanted to say something, but he ended up swallowing his words.
Celeste saw him remain silent and said calmly, “We were just having a disagreement, that’s all.

“What do you mean by disagreement? Grandpa has been against our divorce and keeps trying to get us back together. He insisted I bring Lucian along when he heard she was visiting. If I’d known she’d be here-”
“I wouldn’t have come if I’d known you two were coming.” She cut him off before he could
finish.
“Celeste, must you embarrass me like this?”
“Mr. Damien, weren’t you the one who did that first?” A cold smirk curled on her lips, and her gaze was icy.
“You…” Damien was about to say something when another voice interrupted. “Dinner’s ready.
They all turned toward the kitchen.
Amy Whitmore had finished preparing the food and was calling them over to eat.
Adrian was the first to look away and glance at both of them. “Let’s just have a proper meal tonight since all of you are back! Stop arg g in front of Alaric again! You both know about his health condition.”
His gaze subtly flicked to Damien after saying that.
It was a look that carried a hint of warning and was etched clearly in Damien’s eyes.
“I’ll call them in for dinner.” She nodded toward Adrian, and he moved aside slightly to make

Her shoulder gently touched his arm as she walked past him.
She could smell a faint and cool scent that lingered on him.
It was only a split second before they pulled apart
Adrian glanced in her direction. His dark eyes were deep and unreadable.
“Uncle Adrian, why did you suddenly come back today?”
“Alaric wanted me to have dinner with him. I didn’t expect you two to be here,” Adrian said faintly. “You two had a huge fight at the last family gathering. He probably just wanted to make up for it.”
“I’m truly sorry that what happened between us left you guys with such unpleasant memories
“We’re not the ones you should be apologizing to.” Adrian directly cut him off before he could finish.
There was more to those words than met the eye.
Damien understood what he meant.
Adrian strode off at a fast pace before he could respond.
Damien’s gaze darkened as he watched his retreating figure. Why did he feel like Adrian was constantly protecting her? Was it just his imagination?
Celeste had no choice but to stay for dinner because of Alaric.
They even insisted that she had a few drinks with them.
