Once Damien and Celeste reached the backyard, Celeste shook off his hand that was grabbing her wrist. “Don’t touch me.”
Her tone was calm, yet her voice carried an indifference.
Damien looked at her, his voice low as he asked, “Why is that Eloise girl living in Aviso Tower?

The moment he asked, a mocking smirk curled at her lips.
Damien had indeed investigated Eloise. Everything seemed to go as Adrian had planned. Damien clearly hadn’t uncovered much but the Basic facts, such as that Eloise was staying at Aviso Tower.
At this point, Celeste had no choice but to go along with the narrative that Adrian and she had created. “I know her mother, and Adrian is too busy with work to care for her daily.”
“You know the girl’s biological mother? Who is she?” His eyes flashed with surprise. “What does that have to do with you? Why are you prying so much?”
“You’re my wife, yet you’re helping Uncle Adrian raise a child? Don’t you think that’s a little inappropriate? What if word gets out? Aren’t you worried about the aftermath?” He let out a cold, mocking chuckle.
“If Mr. Wrenford isn’t worried, why should you be?” she responded calmly. “Also, I’ve already given you the divorce papers, but you haven’t signed them yet. What are you trying to do?”
“What am I trying to do? Aren’t you aware of Grandpa’s condition? Do you honestly believe I’m purposely stalling it?”
“I’ve told you how we could do it. We can file for a divorce registration-”
Before she could continue, Damien cut her off. “I’m not wasting my time playing games with you.”
“So you’re just planning to drag this out endlessly?”
“We’ll discuss the divorce after Grandpa has recovered. Before that, don’t even think about divorcing me,” he said resolutely.
Celeste felt her anger boiling over. She glared at him, her gaze cold and sharp.
“And one more thing.” Damien turned to leave, then paused and looked back. “Don’t tell Grandpa that you’re looking after Uncle Adrian’s daughter. If he finds out about it, I won’t be able to explain it to him.”
Naturally, Celeste knew that Alaric couldn’t find out about this. Claiming the child was an

illegitimate daughter was already a stretch. It would be downright absurd if he found out that she was keeping the girl.
“Just return that child to Uncle Adrian. You can’t even care for your son, yet here you are caring for someone else’s.”
Celeste shot him a glance. Her voice was dry and nonchalant as she said, “Hasn’t someone already stepped up to care for your son? I don’t think I need to worry about him.”
Upon hearing her remarks, Damien frowned and warned, “Watch your tone. Stop being passive -aggressive.”
“I need to go check on Alaric’s condition. I don’t have time to argue with you.”
As she walked away, Damien said from behind, “I heard you opened a clinic. Where did you get the money? Don’t tell me it’s from the three million dollars I gave you.”
She paused in her tracks. She irritatedly said, “Let me clarify that the guardian gargoyles were mine to begin with. You had no right to give them to anyone without my permission, so that was your fault. Besides, you willingly paid for it, so technically you bought it off me.”
“I must’ve been insane to spend three million dollars on a pair of guardian gargoyles.” He narrowed his eyes, which were filled with disdain and mockery.
Celeste chuckled coldly. With her level of skill, that price was more than fair. If anything, she could’ve charged more. She felt that asking only three million dollars was practically doing him a favor.
