CHAPTER 3
The next morning, I went to the office to submit my resignation.

When Griffin graduated and wanted to start his own business, no one believed in him except me. He promised he’d reward me once he succeeded, and I believed him
so completely that I turned down a $300,000 job offer elsewhere.
When he had no startup capital, I helped him find investors.
When no one would give him contracts, I networked to land projects.
I’d been by his side as he built a business worth billions, yet I was still just his $8,000–a–month assistant.
Before, when I was in love with him, I was content with that salary. Now that I’d decided to leave him and marry someone else, there was no reason to stay in that role.

I walked into the CEO’s office with my printed resignation letter for Griffin to sign. Before handing it over, Griffin tossed me a small gift box. “Here’s an early birthday present for you.”
I opened it to find a gold necklace. Once upon a time, this would have made me ecstatic. Now I felt nothing.
I knew this necklace was just a complimentary item that came with the $50 million blue diamond he’d bought for Chloe.
In his eyes, I only deserved the free gift that came with the real prize.
Like a dog being tossed a bone.
Griffin expected me to be speechless with joy. Instead, my expression remained blank.
My strange behavior these past two days made him frown. Before he could comment, I handed him the resignation letter.
“I need you to sign this document.”
Griffin trusted me so completely that he signed without even looking at it, assuming it was some important contract.
As I was taking the signed document to leave, Griffin seemed to realize something was off. “What did I just sign?”
I waved my hand dismissively. “Nothing important, just some standard paperwork.” “By the way, I’m taking a few days off, so I won’t be coming to the office.”
Since I’d resigned, I wouldn’t be coming back at all.
“Fine,” Griffin nodded immediately. He probably didn’t want me running into his secret fiancée at the office anyway.

Then he added, “Just make sure you come back after your vacation. We have major projects waiting for you to negotiate…”
I gave a noncommittal hum.
What Griffin didn’t know was that this “vacation” was permanent. After being his assistant for so many years, I was completely burned out…
As I walked toward the reception area, I ran into Griffin’s future wife and current receptionist, Chloe.
She was surrounded by coworkers, proudly displaying her right hand. “This is the ring my fiancé bought at the auction. It cost a cool $50 million! Gorgeous, isn’t it?” “You’ve probably never seen jewelry this expensive before. Take a good look while you have the chance!”

The diamond was indeed stunning, but Chloe was just the company’s decorative receptionist with an ordinary background. How could she possibly know wealthy men who could afford such luxuries?
Everyone looked skeptical.
“Are you sure it’s real?” one asked.
“Yeah, $50 million is no joke. You’re not making this up, are you, Chloe?” Her face flushed red with anger. “Of course it’s real! Don’t talk nonsense!” Frustrated by their doubting looks, Chloe reached into her purse and slammed a property deed on the table.
“Besides this $50 million ring, my fiancé also bought me a house at Riverside Estates. Don’t believe me? See for yourselves!”
Her colleagues crowded around, examining the deed.
It was indeed for a house at Riverside Estates, with Chloe listed as the owner. Their expressions changed to envy.
“Wow, Chloe, you really did land yourself a rich man!”
“Which wealthy family are you marrying into? Someone who can afford Riverside Estates like our CEO?”
They pressed her with curious questions.
