Chapter 21
The next day, it was revealed that Jayden had fallen from the hospital rooftop. His injuries were severe, and his legs had to be amputated. The news spread like wildfire across Jyren City.
But what shocked the public even more was what followed.
After a year of silence following Natalie’s death, Jayden finally
stepped forward and admitted to his wrongdoings.
He confessed that he’d been misled and, out of arrogance, had caused the chain of events that led to his younger sister’s death. And now, he was ready to face the consequences.
The day he was arrested, the sky was clear–strikingly so, just
like the day he’d personally sent Natalie onto that cruise ship.
Only this time, he was the one leaving.
In truth, that blinding flash of light Natalie had unleashed
didn’t possess any real magical powers. All it had done was
force Jayden to face the truth he’d buried for far too long.
When the cold handcuffs were fastened around his wrists,
Jayden finally came to his senses. He looked up at Natalie, and a soul–crushing loneliness washed over him.
They were standing so close, yet somehow, there was a chasm
between them now. No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t reach her anymore.

However, the moment she walked past him, something in Jayden snapped. He lunged toward her, wild–eyed and desperate. “Natalie! Why did you do this to me, Natalie?”
The officers gripped his wheelchair, holding him back as he
thrashed.
Weren’t they supposed to be the closest of siblings? Weren’t they the only family they had in this world? He’d fully realized his mistakes, and he was ready to make it up to her and apologize sincerely. So, why was she doing this to him?
Natalie stopped in her tracks, turning her head just enough to look back at him.
“What about you, Jayden? Why did you do this to me? Why did
you hurt me over and over for the sake of someone who was never family?”
“Why didn’t you listen to me? Why did you push me to the point of no return? Don’t tell me it’s because you felt sorry for Clara. If anyone deserved pity, it was me.
“No one believed me; no one cared for me, and no one even punished those who hurt me. So, I had to take matters into my own hands.”
Jayden’s mind reeled. All of a sudden, he remembered the promise he’d made long ago, kneeling in front of their parents ‘ gravestones, vowing that he would always protect his little

sister, trust her, and make sure she grew up safe and loved.
But now, it was painfully obvious that he’d broken that
promise.

“You betrayed me first, Jayden, so don’t blame me for treating
you like this. The best ending for us… is to never see each
other again. I’ll just pretend my older brother died the year Clara came into our lives.” With that, she turned and
decisively walked away.‘
Behind her, Jayden whispered, “I’m sorry…”
But it was far too late. That apology would never be enough to
heal the wounds he’d inflicted on her soul. Natalie would
never accept it. .
Logan wasn’t surprised when Jayden was sentenced—not even
a little.
en had been the one responsible for the
d that Natalie met, so this was merely the
on he was owed. Logan didn’t feel sorry for him at all; on the contrary, he thought Jayden got exactly what he
deserved.
However, his heart went out to Natalie. Her only family was
now in prison, and the only person left by her side was him, her fiancé.

So, the day after Jayden was jailed, Logan wasted no time bringing Natalie back to his home.
He’d known from the moment he first laid eyes on her that
she was his fiancée. He had no idea how Natalie had come back to life or why she was willing to return to his side, but he
didn’t care. All that mattered now was that she was here.
He thought fate was giving him a second chance to make things right.
