Chapter 14
Alex’s phone started ringing at this point. At first, he excitedly glanced at his phone screen, only to look disparaged after seeing the call from his grandpa.
Theodore, oblivious to what had just happened, asked sternly, “Has Gabby Bett?”
Alex fell into silence. Even without an answer, Theodore knew what had happened.
It had been one month since the end of the contract. The farce at Melody’s birthday party had reached Theodore, hence, he wasn’t surprised that Gabriella would leave,
Sighing heavily, he sounded disappointed in Alex. “I have told you before that nothing could happen between you and Melody. You and her are incompatible in all ways. I thought you had put her behind you after you married Gabriella and had a child with her. Who knew you’d…
“Alex, you’ve disappointed me.”
The frown deepened on Alex’s face. His irritation only grew in the midst of Theodore’s nagging. He was about to hang up when he noticed something from Theodore’s words.
Squinting, his tone grew frosty. “How did you know that she was gone? Did you kick her out? Where did you hide her this time?”
Throwing accusations at Theodore, he spiraled out of control. The pain of being separated from his love six years ago flooded him again.
Teary–eyed, he released all his emotions on his grandfather. He hadn’t noticed that his son, who had been holding onto him, had run afar with fear in his eyes.
Lucas had never seen Alex act this way. In his eyes, Alex was always a calm and composed CEO, a well–dressed business elite, and a loving father.
Alex was anything but the furious man who spiraled out of control in front of him. He never thought Alex would treat Theodore as a punching bag.
Lucas quietly turned around and ran out of the villa. He no longer wanted to wait around–he wanted to look for Gabriella. He didn’t want a father like Alex anymore! Meanwhile, Alex was too absorbed in his own emotions to notice that Lucas had run out.
It was true that Theodore had forced Melody out. Hence, Theodore felt a lingering guilt toward his own grandson.
But it was Alex who drove out Gabriella, to the point that Theodore had no way of keeping her around. As such, Theodore no longer wanted to defend Alex.
“Hmph! Gabby herself wanted to leave. In other words, Alex, you had forced her out because you did not know how to love and respect her.”
Theodore scoffed and called Alex out without reservations. “Did you think Gabby stayed by your side out of love?”
“What’s that supposed to mean?” Stunned, Alex immediately demanded an answer, though he subconsciously warned himself that he would break down if he heard the answer. He scrambled to hang up, but Theodore seemed to have guessed what he wanted to do.
Theodore blurted out the truth, “Gabby has never loved you. She accepted my plan and stayed by your child. She’s nothing but a tool to make you forget Melody!

“I heard Melody was hurt today. Did you not visit her at all?”
Theodore snorted without giving Alex a chance to answer. “Looks like Gabby completed her mission with flying colors. Before she left, she told me to give you and Melody my blessings, which
I agreed to. Whatever you and Melody want to do after this, I will not interfere. But by the looks of it, you don’t need me to intervene anyway.”
The glee in Theodore’s voice was evident. Alex scowled but gritted his teeth, refusing to bow down. He finally muttered, “I don’t believe in you. You’re lying to me.‘
