As expected from childhood friends, Jonathan, Alicia, and Jim had such a seamless vibe that no
me could ever break in.
I shook my head and turned away.
Since Jonathan’s full attention was on Alicia, I had the chance to find Frederick and the others.
I wondered how they were doing now. I called the countless times, but no one picked up.
I was trying to hail a cab outside the hospital when a sleek black Cullinan suddenly pulled up before me.
The car door swung open, and Bob stepped out.
He bowed respectfully, eyes fixed on me. “Ms. Sawyer, please get in.”
I frowned and stepped back. “No thanks. I’ll take a taxi.”
“Mr. Ford ordered me to bring you straight back to the residence.”
I shook my head. “I’m not going back. I still have things to do.”
Bob looked conflicted. “I’m sorry, Ms. Sawyer. This is Mr. Ford’s order. I can’t disobey.”
“I’m not going. Are you going to force me?” I glared at him impatiently.
Bob took a step forward, and I instinctively backed away.
He sighed. “Ms. Sawyer, I know what you’re worried about. Rest assured, there’s nothing wrong with Mr. Guzman. Mr. Ford has already taken care of it.”
I gave him a serious look. “How do I know this isn’t just Jonathan trying to trick me?”
“Of course not,” Bob said firmly. “I’ve worked by Mr. Ford’s side for years. You know my character. I would never lie to you.”
How would I know what kind of person he really was?
I’d forgotten everything from the past five years. I didn’t even know who he truly was after waking from that suicide attempt.
Still, I forced myself to stay calm. “Can you guarantee that?”
“Of course.”
Bob opened the car door again, gesturing politely for me to get in. “Please, Ms. Sawyer, get in first. I promise neither Mr. Guzman nor Ms. Guzman will be in any danger. You’ll only make things worse if you go over there now.”
I had to admit he made some sense. Indeed, it would only fuel Edward’s anger even more if I
showed up now..
Besides, Alicia was still here tending to her wounds, and I had no idea how bad it really was. Aria would have a hard time if she ended up with scars.

Edward was still at the Zimmer residence, so the mansion was relatively quiet. Still, I couldn’t
sit still.
Not long after, Frederick’s call finally came through.
My heart lifted immediately as I answered, “Frederick, how’s everything?”
There was silence on the other end.
After a long pause, he spoke softly, “It’s all settled now.”
I breathed a sigh of relief. “That’s good.”
Then Aria’s voice suddenly burst through the line, “Turn on the speaker! Let me talk to her too!”
I hesitated for a moment, and then her voice got louder instantly.
“Elise!” Aria called out to me.
“Yeah,” I replied.
Her mood instantly brightened after hearing my voice. “Are you okay?”
“I’m fine. What about you guys? Are you alright?”
“We’re fine too!”
After exchanging updates, Aria realized she’d been too enthusiastic with me.
Her tone quickly cooled off. “How are things over there? Jonathan hasn’t given you any trouble, has he?”
