My sudden episode darkened Jonathan’s expression. “What’s wrong with her?”
Jim stood up immediately. “Her condition is complicated. You’d better have a neurologist examine her.”
Jonathan’s brow furrowed sharply, his expression turning frighteningly grim.
“She only hurt her arm. Why would she have a headache?”
“I don’t know.” Jim shook his head. “I’d noticed something was off before, but since she didn’t say anything, I didn’t press. I only gave you a warning.”
Jonathan’s gaze sank deep, silent, his emotions tangled.
I tugged at the corner of my mouth, my tone cold. “I’m fine now. You should go back to Alicia. Don’t just stand here in the way.”
I thought Jonathan would walk off immediately, as he wasn’t the patient type. Even when Edward was involved, I’d never dared speak that bluntly.
“It was my negligence.” Jonathan unexpectedly lowered his head. “I shouldn’t have let you go alone. I thought you were okay.”
After a pause, his hand lightly brushed my skin. “It’s good you’re alright. I’ll stay with you.”
I didn’t know if he was putting on a show for Frederick, but his gentleness didn’t move me one bit.
Instead, I closed my eyes, a little impatient. “I want to rest alone for a while.”
Jonathan frowned but said no more.
He stood up and looked toward the two at the door. “Do you need me to see you out?”
Frederick looked at me steadily and shook his head. “No, I’ll go back by myself.”
I opened my eyes and met his gaze.
Frederick’s lips pressed into a straight line, and his eyes seemed to hold a thousand unspoken words.
But I knew he wouldn’t say them. And neither would I. He had his pride, and I had my limits.
Gabrielle did remind me of a few things before reluctantly following Frederick out of the room.
That left just Jonathan and me in the hospital room.
He didn’t say a word, his eyes as dark as ink.
Before long, a medical team arrived. Several people gathered around me, thoroughly examining my head.
The lead senior professor pulled off his mask and looked at Jonathan.
“Mr. Ford, we just finished the examination. Ms. Sawyer didn’t suffer any obvious external head trauma.”

“This kind of case is complicated. The brain is the most complex organ. It could be a lesion, and psychological factors might also be involved. I recommend you consult a neurologist or a psychiatrist
Jonathan frowned and told them to leave.
Sure enough, he arranged for several psychologists and psychiatrists to see me, but none of them could pinpoint the issue.
“Ms. Sawyer’s condition is complicated.” One doctor frowned and shook his head.
“We need to keep observing. But I can confirm that abnormal signals are coming from her brain.”
Jonathan’s brows tightened further. “What does that mean?”
“It likely means some kind of stimulus affected her brain, but we don’t know if it’s impacted brain function.
The doctor paused, then looked at me. “Ms. Sawyer, are you feeling unwell anywhere?”
“I’m fine.”
Besides the headaches, the biggest problem was the memory loss. But I couldn’t let Jonathan know that.
I shook my head firmly. “It’s just a few headaches. Nothing serious.”
