Chapter 39
After seeing Haley off, Estelle took a deep breath and went back to reviewing the partnership proposals from other companies.
If she didn’t want to collaborate with Dillon, she’d have to find someone even more influential to work with. But apart from the Sawfords and the Waverlys, who else would dare to challenge him?
Dillon took the proposal with a blank expression at Waverly Tower. He skimmed through it before tossing it aside.
After a long silence with no response from him, Haley started to get worried.
She hesitated for a moment before gingerly saying, “Ms. Sawford looks pretty reluctant about working with us, so getting this partnership going might be a challenge, Mr. Waverly.”
Hearing that, Dillon finally looked up, his dark eyes unnervingly intense. Haley couldn’t hold her gaze for long and quickly looked down in fear. She was too scared to meet his eyes again.
Dillon looked away and muttered, “No matter what it takes, secure the partnership.”
Haley was speechless. She had a feeling that Dillon held a grudge against Estelle.
Dillon glanced at the calendar next to him and suddenly froze, realizing that the anniversary of Aurora’s passing was just two days away.
After grabbing his phone, he stood up and headed out of Waverly Tower without thinking
twice.
In the evening, Estelle and Seth were on their way back to the villa. As they arrived at the door, they noticed Dillon’s Rolls–Royce was parked outside.
Even though he didn’t get out of his car, Estelle’s heart tightened when she caught his dark eyes, which stood out even during the night.
Sensing Estelle’s fear, Seth stopped smiling and met Dillon’s cold stare with a blank face. He subtly moved her behind him. “What brings you here so late, Mr. Waverly?”
Dillon didn’t say anything, his eyes glued on Estelle. She felt a chill run down her spine and found herself walking toward him against her will.
Seth grabbed her arm again, whispering in her ear, “It’s alright. I’m with you.”
Upon hearing Seth’s words, Estelle began to calm down. She smiled at him and then looked back at Dillon coldly. “What do you want?”
Chapter 39
Dillon furrowed his brows, feeling frustrated with how intimate Estelle and Seth were. He opened the car door and looked down at her. “Why did you turn me down for the collaboration?”
Estelle was amused. “Why do I have to collaborate with you, Dillon? You don’t like me, hate you, too. Why bother pretending? Isn’t it better if we just stay out of each other’s lives?” Dillon couldn’t get Estelle’s words about hating him out of his head.
and I
He instinctively shook his head, thinking things shouldn’t be like this. But he couldn’t quite put his finger on how things should have turned out.
Dillon saw how close they were, and his expression hardened. He scowled and warned, “You’re still my wife, Estelle.”
“In that case, divorce me,” Estelle fired back without hesitation. She didn’t want to be his wife
anyway.
Dillon’s face was getting darker, like a thunderstorm was brewing.
Estelle didn’t care at all. “Let’s end things here, Dillon. You’ve gotten what you wanted, so stop letting down the person you’ve been longing for.”
Dillon asked, “Did I fail her?”
Hearing that, Estelle was stunned for a moment before sporting a wry smile.
Dillon was right because he didn’t let anyone down. He just didn’t like seeing her alive.
Estelle quickly composed herself and flashed him a gentle grin. “Just pretend I’m dead. After all, you wanted me gone back then, didn’t you?”
Dillon muttered, “That’s not true-‘
He tried to explain, but Estelle cut him off and took Seth by the arm before walking toward the villa.
Without thinking, Dillon quickly grabbed Estelle’s arms.
