Chapter 56
Estelle possessed something Lance had his eyes on, so he couldn’t bring himself to cross her. But Dillon was a tight buddy of his.
At the thought of his plan, Lance couldn’t help the resentment seeping into his voice. “Dillon, didn’t you used to always attend auctions by yourself?”
Had he known that Dillon was bringing Alison along, he wouldn’t have made such
arrangements.
Dillon shot Lance a fleeting glance before fixing his gaze on Estelle once more. It seemed like it wouldn’t be easy to get Dillon to leave without Estelle today. How infuriating.
Realizing that Dillon wasn’t going to leave without putting up a fight, Estelle shot Alison a thoughtful look out of the corner of her eye.
Suddenly, a smile spread across her lips. “Well, how’s this? If you don’t believe me, why don’t you check the surveillance footage?”
“No way!”
Alison paled instantly.
Lance immediately understood what was going on when he noticed the uneasy look on her face. He nodded readily. “Dillon, I think Ms. Sawford’s right. If you don’t believe that she’s Alex, why don’t we check the surveillance footage?”
Hesitation flashed in Dillon’s eyes.
Before he could say anything, Alison clutched her stomach all of a sudden. She collapsed weakly into Dillon’s arm. “Dillon, I don’t feel well. Can you send me to the hospital?”
Dillon was immediately flustered upon hearing that. He promptly carried her in his arms and asked, “Is your gastritis acting up again? I’ll send you to the hospital right away.”
Then, without another word, he left with Alison in his arms.
A dejected look flashed in Estelle’s eyes at the sight of that. Hadn’t Dillon been reluctant to leave just a while ago? But the moment Alison voiced out her discomfort, he got so immensely
worried.
Lance sighed helplessly when he saw Estelle’s forced smile. He tried to soothe her, saying, Don’t get worked up over that. Things are complicated between Dillon and Alison. But for the past five years

Estelle interrupted him with a smile. “Mr. Sterling, how Dillon has been has absolutely nothing to do with me.”
Then, she turned and went back to her seat as though the commotion earlier on had never

happened.
Lance’s glance swept across her tightly clenched fists, and an ambiguous smile crept up his lips. He was pretty sure her nails had already dug into the flesh of her palm, and yet she still claimed that she didn’t care about Dillon.
Estelle kept her eyes on the monitor, but the only image she had in her head was the scene of Dillon carrying Alison out from earlier on. If she wasn’t mistaken, Alison was taunting her. Estelle found it ridiculous that her emotions were still affected by Dillon.
Fortunately for her, the auction went smoothly and she got her hands on what she wanted.
Over at the hospital, Dillon stood in front of the hospital bed and looked down at Alison, his gaze devoid of warmth.
Alison could tell that he was fuming, so she bit her lip and kept silent. She knew that Dillon was waiting for an explanation.
It was eerily silent in the hospital room. All the doctors and nurses had hurriedly left the room after checking up on Alison.
Dillon shot a glance at the door before focusing his serious gaze on Alison. “Why’d you do that?”
She shuddered involuntarily before looking up with misty eyes. “I’m sorry. I was just too nervous, so my gastritis acted up. I’ll go back and apologize to Estelle immediately.”
Then, Alison pulled the covers off herself and was about to get out of bed.
Dillon frowned and stopped her. “No need for that. Just don’t take your health lightly in the future.”
With that, he walked out the door without a backward glance.
As there was no point in returning to the auction anymore, Dillon went upstairs to meet Baxter with thoughts of Estelle’s shocking information racing in his head.
