Chapter 60
“Well, since Mr. Pembroke won’t meet us, then we’ll just head back for now and figure something out later,” Estelle said before walking away wordlessly.
Seth noticed the sudden change in her expression. But being tactful, he didn’t press further and quietly followed alongside her.
They had just returned to the foundation when Madison stormed over huffily. “I’m so pissed off! I wonder which jerk reported us, saying that we never developed the cancer treatment drug and even going so far as to claim that you-
Halfway through her sentence, Madison caught Herself saying something she shouldn’t have, so she cut herself off.
But Estelle wasn’t bothered. She even completed Madison’s sentence for her. “They think that I faked things and that the cancer treatment drug is just a hoax. Am I right?”
Seeing that she had already guessed it, Madison shot Seth a helpless glance.
Seth looked bothered too. He looked at Estelle with concern in his eyes. “I’m afraid this was a deliberate move. From how I see it, this has everything to do with the Sawford family.”
Estelle hid the hatred in her eyes and smiled with her usual calmness. “Don’t worry. They don’t have a say in whether or not the cancer treatment drug works. What matters most is that the higher–ups know the truth. Besides, I’m a living testimony that it does work!”
She then returned to her desk, picked up her tablet, and started checking the current
sentiments online.
It was Alison again. She’d posted an old photograph and sarcastically thanked Estelle for not actually being dead. Her supporters commented that Estelle never really had stomach cancer and that the cancer treatment drug was fake too.
The post quickly made it to the trending list, and that came as no surprise, as someone from the Sawford family had confirmed that Estelle was lying.
Seth got a little concerned seeing Estelle being quiet for such a long time. “Should I speak up for you?”
She stopped him immediately. “No.”
When she saw him looking disheartened, she explained, “If you get involved, they’ll drag you through the mud too. The best move now is to lie low and observe things.”
The idea of staying quiet.got Madison all riled up. She rolled up her sleeves, logged into her Twitter account, and began typing furiously. “Just wait and see how I roast them.”
Feeling Madison’s genuine fury, Estelle was both amused and exasperated. She wasn’t the

least bit bothered by Alison’s underhanded tactics. The pressing matter at hand now was to solve the issue of the shortage of herbs…
Over at the Royal Chamber club, a server led Dillon into the most private VIP suite upstairs. As soon as Dillon entered, everyone stood up and greeted him.
Baxter jogged up to him. “You’re finally here! Lheard that you bought a plot of land at an exorbitant price today. What plans have you got again this time?”
Dillon scoffed. He looked up at Lance, who was seated at the back of the room.
Lance smiled and raised his glass at Dillon. “It’s been a long time, Mr. Waverly.”
Dillon’s expression darkened when he saw Lance’s smug smile. He took a seat beside Lance and lit a cigarette. Then, he pinned’a sharp gaze on Lance, as though trying to see through all his dirty schemes.
Feeling uncomfortable under that stare, Lance took a small sip of wine and forced a grin. ” Why are you looking at me like that, Mr. Waverly? Surely you can’t have given up on women and are now interested in giving men a try instead?”
Dillon looked like he’d just swallowed a fly. “I suggest you spill everything unless you want to get a good beating,” he warned coldly.
Noticing how short of a fuse Dillon had, Lance heaved a sigh and shook his head. “What do you want me to say? I first met Ms. Sawford at an auction. She went alone.”
“An auction?” Baxter seemed pretty lost. He asked curiously, “You only go to high–end auctions. How did someone like Estelle, who isn’t even favored by her family, manage to get in?”
