Chapter 64
Chapter 64
“Thank you for the advice, Mr. Pembroke,” Estelle said.
Ronald let out a sigh at Estelle and Seth’s interactions. It wouldn’t be easy for Dillon to win her
over.
Waving dismissively, Ronald said, “Alright, I’ve signed the papers. If there isn’t anything else, I’d appreciate some time alone.”
Estelle took the hint and stood up. Just as she turned to leave, she was suddenly reminded of the uneasiness she felt as soon as she entered. Ronald had agreed far too easily.
Ronald chuckled when he saw her hesitate. “Don’t worry. I’m not setting you up. I just think that it must have been a tough journey developing a cancer treatment drug. Besides, I wronged you before because I trusted those rumors slandering you. Just take this as a small gesture from me to make amends.”
Providing her with all the herbs she needed from his fields was his idea of a small gesture to make amends? A strange feeling settled in Estelle’s chest.
But Mason was already at the doorway, waiting to escort them out.
Seeing him there, she knew that it wasn’t the right time to be pushing for answers, so she went along with the flow and followed him out.
But just as they reached the door, curiosity got the better of her. She turned to Mason and asked, “When my husband visited yesterday, he came in a Rolls–Royce, didn’t he?”
“Yes,” Mason answered.
The answer chilled her to the bone. So, it really was Dillon!
“Estelle?” Seth called out to her, feeling concerned.
She snapped back to the present, forcing a pale and weary smile. “Thank you. That’s all I
needed to know.”
Then, she hurried away. It wasn’t until she got into the car that she let her panic show through. She even began shaking all over.
“Are you alright, Estelle?” Seth asked worriedly.
Estelle shook her head quickly, trying to pull herself together. “I’m okay.”
Then she let out a long, shaky breath and forced a weak smile. “I’m just wondering why Dillon
is doing this to me. Does he really hate me this much?”
So much so that he wouldn’t stop at anything to destroy her?

Seth reached out to comfort her. But before his hand touched her head, he stopped himself. Instead, he gently patted her on the shoulder.
“Perhaps there’s some misunderstanding between you. Should we go see him and talk things through?”
“No!” Estelle rejected the idea instantly.
She bit her lip and lowered her head, lost in thought. It had been five years. She thought she’d already let go of Dillon. But when she learned that he was the one driving a wedge between Ronald and her, she couldn’t help but feel the urge to cry.
After a long pause, Estelle finally reopened her eyes and leaned back against the seat.
“Let’s head back to the lab and finalize our next steps for now. There is still a lot to be handled. As for meeting Dillon…”
She clenched her fists and fell silent for a couple of seconds. “Oh, there’s no doubt I’ll go see him. But now’s not the time yet.”
Seth smiled bitterly. He had no idea that Dillon still affected her so much after all this time.
Just moments after they left, Dillon and Ronald appeared at the doorway. With his hands behind his back, Dillon watched expressionlessly as the BMW drove off into the distance. Ronald glanced up at him curiously. “Having second thoughts?”
