“Why don’t we add each other?” Baxter asked.
Estelle stared at the QR code he held out, feeling slightly dazed.
Why was Baxter, who used to do nothing but mock and belittle her, trying to be friendly?
When she didn’t react, he didn’t seem bothered. Instead, he turned and offered the code to Madison.
Madison hesitated.
He chuckled at their guarded behavior and shook his head.
“Relax. I’m not some scam artist. My dad’s the chairman of Magnolia Hospital. Now, do you get the size of the market we’re capable of taking?”
Magnolia Hospital? That was the largest private hospital in the country–practically a luxury medical institution. No matter how rare or difficult the illness, they always found a way to get
the treatment.
Rumor had it that Jude was already 100 but still looked like he was in his 60s.
Hearing that, Madison didn’t hesitate anymore. She pulled out her phone and scanned the
code.
“I hope you don’t take it personally, Mr. Redmond. We’re sitting on something huge, and there are just too many people with bad intentions out there.”
Baxter nodded in understanding and even took the opportunity to flatter Estelle. “Estelle’s not just beautiful, she’s wealthy, and on top of that, she’s a renowned collector. She’s a treasure in her own right. It makes sense people would be after her.”
Now that was smooth.
Madison immediately looked at him with more appreciation.
She nodded in agreement. “Exactly. Take the Sawford and the Waverly families, for example. They’re so shameless that they keep trying to send people to see Estelle. What? Do they think she’s someone they can just meet whenever they feel like it?”
Baxter finally understood and gave a subtle smile.
She was throwing some serious shade at him.
As the heir of the Redmond family, he had nothing but a smooth sailing life for nearly 30 years. This was probably the first time he had been so humbled.
He would remember this and make sure Dillon paid for it later.
Chapter 84
Madison was watching Baxter closely, and when she noticed he had no intention of leaving, she shifted gears. “So, Mr. Redmond, are you here to talk business?”
Baxter’s eyes lit up. She was finally willing to give him the time of day.
He nodded eagerly, then gave Estelle a wounded look. “I came with real sincerity, you know. And what do I get? You guys practically shut the door in my face.
As he spoke, he couldn’t help slipping back into his usual cocky tone, his confidence rising again.
Whatever goodwill Madison had started to feel toward him vanished in an instant.
“Anyone who hangs around Dillon can’t be a good person,” she thought.
“Are you here to talk business?” Estelle was fully on guard now.
Baxter was practically joined at the hip with Dillon. Why would he want to collaborate with her?
He caught the suspicion in her eyes and raised both hands in mock surrender. “Come on, this is about making money. My dad gave me an ultimatum -if I can’t secure this deal with you, I’m out on my ass tomorrow.”
That got Madison’s attention. She exchanged a look with Estelle and then gave Baxter a more welcoming smile. “Mr. Redmond, this is not the best place to talk. Why don’t you come with us inside?”
He saw right through her little change in attitude, but didn’t mind. He followed them without hesitation.
From a distance, Alison watched the exchange, her eyes gleaming with satisfaction.
She couldn’t wait to get to Dillon.
When she realized he hadn’t noticed her, she sighed softly and said, “Dillon, what do you think is going on between Estelle and Mr. Redmond? I haven’t seen him smile like that in ages.
Dillon frowned slightly, eyes downcast. “Doesn’t Baxter smile all the time?”
Clearly, he missed the point.
Alison’s smile faltered, but she quickly recovered letting out another sigh. “I mean, Mr. Redmond seems to really care about her. Are you sure he just sees her as a friend?” The moment she said it, Dillon’s expression changed.
