Chapter 31.

Kaden POV.

It has been a few hours since Courtney was in that explosion, and she is still out of it. Wolf

has arrived and we had to restrain him because he lost it. He gave me a black eye and I

him a broken nose. He isn’t my president I am my own.

The fact he came in her like a bull in a damn china shop and started losing his s**t will not be

tolerated. I get it, he is upset. He could have lost his daughter but that is no excuse to kick off

at me. I told him he should be directing that f*****g anger on the one who did this to her.

He calmed down eventually especially when Chief walked in and grabbed him slamming him

into the wall. I forgot Chief has unfinished business with Wolf when it comes to Katie.

Thinking about Katie and all the s**t she left hidden, and all the s**t Courtney has been

through since her momma left her, it is enough to make your head spin.

So here we all are, Wolf sitting on the sofa next to Chief, me in the chair next to her bed and

Havoc and Storm outside the door. Checking every doctor or nurse before they enter the room.

The doctor who is an old friend of Chief’s has been in a few times to check up on Courtney,

but she is still sleeping. I want her to wake up and soon. I need to hear her voice and see her eyes. Only then will I be able to relax. Knowing she is in fact ok. Until then I am not leaving her side, ever. Not just when she wakes up, I will not be leaving her again. That will never happen.

All that matters is she wakes up and when she does things will be ok. Right now, we are all on edge waiting for her to open her eyes. The only sound is the beeping on the heart monitor and

her breaths.

“She will be ok Venom, she is like her mom, strong.” Chief says and I nod my head listening to

his words as I look at Courtney. I lean forward and kiss her belly.

I don’t care if it makes me look silly that I am kissing Courtney’s belly, my daughter, and my woman both need me to be strong right now and I will be. But what they will want more than anything is for me to find the dickhead responsible and to bring them to justice.

Hours later we are eating, and the TV is now on for some sort of background noise. It is dark outside and still Courtney hasn’t woken up. The nurse told us that Courtney has suffered a concussion, and it is best to let her sleep. I argued that she should be awake with a concussion, and she told me that it is best to sleep as it helps to heal the brain.

I call bullshit, but these are the medical professionals after all. Havoc and Storm have been

given chairs to sit on. Wolf and Chief are watching Courtney just like I am.

“Why don’t you two go for a walk, I will stay with her.” I say not looking at them Chief goes to protest when I give him a look.

“Ok, son. Fresh air sounds good. I will get her what I left at the clubhouse. I only managed to

grab a few clothes for her.” Chief tells me and I nod. He and Wolf move to the bed and both kiss Courtney on the head before they pat me on the shoulder leaving the room.

I lean back in my chair and my eyes feel heavy and I shake my head to keep myself awake

even if it is only for a short while.

I stand and stretch moving the bathroom. After I’ve done my business, and I’ve washed my

hands I move back into the room. I look at the bed once more rubbing the back of my neck

and there she is looking at me with her beautiful eyes. I must be dreaming. I rub my eyes and

open the again and my breath catches in my throat.

Not a dream she is awake.

“Courtney, baby, are you ok?” I want to kick myself. Of course she isn’t ok, you f*****g i***t.

“Kaden, where am I? Oh god the baby. Is she ok?” her heart monitor spikes as she places her

hands on her bump, and I move towards her.

“Shhh, our daughter is ok, she is still there. Baby don’t worry about anything else, ok. You are in the hospital, but you are ok, you will both be ok.” I say as I hug her, and she clutches my cut pulling me closer when she cries.

I move back thinking I’m hurting her when she shakes her head.

“You’re not hurting me. Kaden please just hold me. The truck, God my momma’s truck it … it exploded after making a weird noise. Someone tampered with it. It was fine working then … it wasn’t.” she sobs, and I just hold her as the door opens again and in comes Storm and Havoc.

“Spitfire.” They both say and she lifts her head from my chest and looks at them both.

“Get Chief and Wolf back here now.” I say and Havoc nods his head once grabbing Storm and

they leave the room.

“It’s ok you are both ok. Let’s not worry about that right now ok. What matters is that you and her are safe. You saved her with the way you fell. I promise you I find who did this and I will make them pay. You and her are mine. Courtney baby look at me.” I say and she lifts her head

looking into my eyes.

“No more games, no more running away or giving you space. I f*****g love you Courtney

Morrison and I want us to be a family, together.” I tell her and she looks at me for a moment and I feel that she is going to reject me once again. When she sighs and nods her head.

“I suppose nearly being killed puts a lot into perspective. One chance Kaden, that is all you get. But don’t think you are in the clear just yet, there is work we need to both do. Whoever it

was knew I was working on the truck and knew I would have to test drive it. This was a

calculated attempt on my life.” She says and I nod my head at her. Wait!

Did she just say I get one chance? Did she just agree to start over? I go to ask when the door

bangs off the wall causing Courtney and me to both jump as I turn ready to shoot the fucker

seeing Chief and Wolf both standing there.

They look shocked then relieved as I pull Courtney closer to me. Wolf is the first to approach

Courtney who is now full–on sobbing as she reaches for him. I move out of the way to allow

him to hug his daughter.

“I’m sorry baby, I’m so f*****g sorry. If I had known who your momma was, I would have taken

you both to Chief sooner. Then maybe none of this would have happened.” He says to her, and

I look at Chief who is wiping his eyes.

“Dad, are you ok? I thought I lost you too. Please dad don’t leave me.” Courtney says as Wolf

kisses her head and rocks her in his arms as they both cry. My heart clenches at the sight.

Courtney could have lost her dad and her own life all because of who she is.

This is beyond cruel and those responsibly need to be dealt with quickly.

“Grandpa.” Courtney says as she looks at Chief and he walks closer to her and kisses her

head. She smiles softly up at him before she looks at every one of us in the room.

“Courtney, what happened?” Wolf asks her and she looks at me and I nod my head at her. So,

she tells them what she had been doing for a few days with the cage.

“Everything was running fine, the truck was moving smoothly as I got to the bottom of the

driveway by the gate, the speedometer glitched and a warning light came on the dash. So, I

shut the engine off and opened the hood. I heard a weird noise and then a click. I jumped

down and ran knowing it was a bomb when it exploded. I was thrown forward and turned so I

landed on my back. I shielded my belly to protect her from the falling debris. Then it hit me,

someone sabotaged the truck. They knew I would need to test drive it. They wanted me and her dead. I’m sorry grandpa but you have a traitor in your ranks.” She tells us all and

is boiling with rage.

Rage that they would target her a pregnant woman. Women are off f*****g limits. But the traitor is working for the Mayhem, for them anything goes.
