Chapter 41.
Courtney POV.
I can’t believe him. I really can’t. It should hurt that he will never accept that the woman he raised is not his child. But it doesn’t. If I’m being totally honest, I don’t really know him. Even
so, I am his flesh and blood. Yet, he is more concerned with the imposter than his actual
daughter.
I’m not completely heartless. I don’t know how he is feeling that he now knows the truth, however; he has made his bed, and he has to lie in it. I won’t be sugarcoating or pussyfooting
around him just because he has learnt the truth.
Besides, he was shot because of Chloe, or did that little fact simply slip his mind? Either way,
I’m done. He slapped me and never in my life have I been slapped, especially by my parent.
Momma never raised a hand to me, sure I bet she would have loved to give me a spank
occasionally, but momma had different ways to deal with me other than resorting to violence.
Tough love, it is called. If I kicked off over something, it was taken away. If I was told no, it
meant no. But momma hardly ever had to do any of that. I’m not trying to compare myself to
Chloe, there is no comparison. I’m his blood. She isn’t game over, simple.
“Baby, I bought you an ice pack.” Kaden says as he enters the room with an ice pack in his
hand. I smile at him as I sit on the end of the bed, just thinking about everything that has just
happened.
“Thank you,” I say, trying to take it from his hand when he evades me and presses it to my
cheek. I hiss at the cold, but then I relax.
“I’m sorry he did that to you. I’m not going to make an excuse for him. He should have never raised his hand to you. Not just because you are his daughter, but you’re pregnant. That is unforgiveable. He is in the cells to cool off.” He tells me and I just nod my head at his words.
Kaden is right, no matter how he felt in that moment he shouldn’t have hit me, regardless of if
I’m his daughter. Bean gives a gentle push and I caress my swollen belly.
“Is she ok? Are you Ok? Why didn’t you tell me you were going to speak to Max?” He asks his questions and I sigh knowing he is going to have to be told.
“She is fine. I’m fine and if I told you, you would have stopped me. Grandpa wasn’t listening,
and I had to do something. I can’t sit back as they condemn Max to death. I know what he did was wrong, but look at it from his point of view.” I say as Kaden pulls me gently back against

his chest as he rearranges the quilt over the two of us.
“I get that, but he still tried to kill you and her, no matter which way you look at it.” He says. with a groan and I know he is right, but still, if Chloe didn’t get in his head, he wouldn’t have even done that. I’m one hundred percent blaming Grim, Michelle, and Chloe for this. Max was
being used as a tool to do their bidding.
“You heard what he said. He listened to Chloe, believed he was doing right by his sister,
protecting her when he was the one that needed protecting. This is wrong, so very wrong. He
has goodness in him. I know he does. It’s that club and those damn people that need to be put to death, not him.” I say as I lean my head back against Kaden’s chest.
“What will you do then?” Kaden asks, and I think for a few seconds and I smirk.
“I will call an emergency session before Max is killed. It is the only way to stop this from
happening. Also, he will tell them what he knows and why he did it. I know my grandpa cares
for Max. I think that is why this betrayal cuts so damn deep.” I say, feeling sad once more.
Kaden wraps one arm under my bump as he listens and hums his acknowledgment of my
words.
“What you going to do with Wolf?” He asks me and I sigh, shaking my head slightly.
“I won’t order that he is to be killed. Whether he likes it or not, he is still my sperm donor. But I
will be staying away from him until he calms down and sorts his head out. He hits me again
and I will blow his kneecaps out.” I say, and Kaden chuckles before he kisses my head.
“There she is, my Spitfire. Don’t let anyone rain on your parade. I know you want revenge and
so do we. Just don’t lose yourself to it.” He says and I nod, knowing I won’t. That is one thing I
won’t let happen. I won’t lose myself to this.
There is only so much I can take before I snap and I am already at breaking point. But still,
with everything happening the way it has been the past few weeks, I need a break.
There is a knock at the door and I sigh and Kaden chuckles.
“Come in.” Kaden says and I sit up and look at him, raising an eyebrow at him. He chuckles
and kisses me on the lips as the door opens and grandpa walks in.
“Ok you two, break it up.” Grandpa says as he chuckles, closing the door behind him as he
walks closer to the bed and sits down. He checks my face over and sighs.
“I’m sorry, Courtney, for what Wolf did to you. He will come round soon enough. It is hard on him to learn the truth, but that in no way makes it ok for him to slap you. I’m here to let
you

know I am not going to execute Max. I just had an emergency meeting with the other presidents and heads of the families and they agreed he was only acting on what he was told. They will give him a probationary period. One f**k up from him and it’s done.” I smile and hug my grandpa, and he chuckles as he wraps his arms around me.
“Thank you, grandpa. Max is a product of their rage. He didn’t deserve to be brought up like that. I know he will be better. He does respect you the same as I do.” I say to him and he laughs loudly at that.
“You don’t respect me at all. If you did, you would have not gone to him in the first place. But I’m glad you did, otherwise he would be dead now. One day you will make a fine Donna and pres. Now, the other reason I am here is because I have a gift for you.” He says, and I look at him in confusion. A gift? What gift?
“What is it?” I ask, and he chuckles before he flicks my nose with his finger and thumb.
“I can see you will never have patience, but for this particular gift, I think you won’t need it. Come on, I have something to show you. You too Kaden.” I look at Kaden and he shrugs his shoulders.
We both leave the bedroom as Kaden pulls a t–shirt over his head before throwing his hair in a bun as we walk along the hallway to the stairs. There are only a few people that have woken as I take the stairs one at a time to get to the bottom.
Grandpa opens the front door and I look at Kaden in confusion when we follow behind him to
the outside.
The sun is just starting to rise. When I follow grandpa around the side of the mansion and I stop in my tracks.
“Surprise!” he exclaims, a big smile on his face and arms wide, and I smile at the two bound and gagged women on their knees.
“Well, well. So nice to see you Chloe, Michelle. We have a lot to discuss.”
