Chapter 48.
Courtney POV.
Today is the first day of being in charge, so far so good. The remaining members and some of the mafia don’s have been so nice to me. They are all eager to help me because less face it. I have no idea what the hell I am supposed to do.
Thank god for my dad and Kaden, having two strong and capable club presidents is a damn blessing. A blessing I am grateful for.
Fabio is also here, god I am so nervous that I may f**k this up. But so far, no harm done.
Fabio comes to me in grandpa’s office and hands me a file. I look at him with the biggest puppy dog eyes I can muster, and he chuckles at me.
“These are the monthly expenses that the club and other side of our business have spent.” He says and I look at the black file and open it.. Grabbing a pen and pad of paper.
Ok, this seems easy enough. I have to do this for my business, so I know what I’m doing. I look at the inventory and check the figures and frown. I make notes on what I am finding and search through every number, every item and find that things have been going missing and
aren’t adding up.
“Fabio, you have checked this, right?” I ask him and he looks confused and comes closer to me. Dad and Kaden also look up from whatever they were doing. I’m assuming their own club
business.
“Of course. What is it you’re seeing?” He asks and I point to each of the items that aren’t
making sense to me.
“There are discrepancies in this, look. It may only be slight, but it’s there.” I say and he looks at
each and then at the corresponding numbers.
“How on earth did I miss this?” He asks and I chuckle. Tapping my pen on the pad of paper.
“It is so minute it is easy to miss, but the cost that is something that is out. Which business is this for? Or is it for the club?” I ask because I can’t see it being for the clubhouse. Or the other
side of business.
“That one is for the tattoo shop, that one is for the bar and hotel, that is for the garage.” I hum, thinking as I lean back in the comfortable black leather executive chair. I need one of these.
So comfy.

“Well, it looks like these businesses are skimming money. I think we need to send in trusted men to each of the locations and check their books. If I’m right, then they are stealing from us, and that is not good.” I say and Fabio nods his head as I look at my dad and Kaden and they both are smirking.
“When do you want to send in someone?” Fabio asks me and I look back at the lists. The good thing about this list is that every item purchased is time stamped. So the other thing the discrepancies are showing one minute after midnight when the system updates.
“Check with Richie. Get him to check the business logs remotely. Just in case they try to say it
is a computing error. Then when Richie confirms or denies then we move, but for now, I want
eyes at these locations. Also, I need you to check each month, going back the past twelve
months and check for the discrepancies. These businesses are legit, so any mistakes are on us.” I give him my order and he leaves to get to work.
If these people are stealing from my family, then they will have to answer for their crimes. I
don’t want to think what will happen to them, but still they have to be punished.
The desk phone rings and I answer it.
“Acting pres Courtney Gambino speaking.” I say, feeling a swell of pride and I feel giddy.
“Hello, Courtney.” I stiffen at the voice. For some reason, my body responds and I don’t even
know who it is.
“Who is this?” I ask, trying to be as nonchalant as possible when I hit the loudspeaker button, and the chuckle fills the office. My dad and Kaden are both up on their feet and moving
towards the desk.
“Oh, I’m hurt you don’t know who I am, little dove, but you will.” I look at dad and he is raging
and so is Kaden.
“Little dove, oh please, if you are going to try to intimidate me, then come up with something original. Your game is off, so why don’t you tell me who you are?” I say, rolling my eyes, but
inside I’m quaking.
He chuckles darkly, and I know who he is. I want him to confirm it. He is brazen to call here.
“Well, considering I should have been your daddy, I’m hurt. You know who I am, little dove, so did your momma. She was such a beautiful little thing. Pity she ran away. We could have had some good times together.” I feel bile rising in my throat and I gulp it down.
“Grim,” I say.

“Bingo. I knew you were a clever little dove, but I also knew one day you would fly back home. I heard what happened to your momma, and I would like to offer you my heartfelt condolences.
After all, she was to be my wife.” The air freezes in my lungs and I look at dad and he is baring
his teeth and fists clenched.
“But alas, she ran away when I went to get her. You see, my father had a contract with your great grandpa. Then at the last minute, he broke it. I bet he didn’t tell you that little bit of information. I don’t want to hurt you, Courtney. My fight isn’t with you. I know you have
Michelle and Chloe, oh, and Max. I also know you are so clever and all that you are planning to
turn Michelle against me. Can I make a suggestion?” He chuckles and I realise we have a
mole.
“Go f**k yourself Patrick. But by all means, make your suggestion and I will make one of mine.
“I say to him as I stand, placing my hands on the table. I notice Kaden has his phone in his
hand and he makes the motion to keep him talking as he is recording the call.
“Feisty, are you sure you aren’t mine?” He cackles like a man possessed, and it sends a cold
chill of dread down my spine.
“Positive I’m not. I am more like Wolf than anything. So go on, make your suggestion and I
may just consider it.” I say, and he stops chuckling and growls through the phone.
“By all means you can kill the three you have, on one condition.” He says and I don’t like where
this is going to go. I’m stunned he is willing to let me kill his kids and wife? He is one sick son
of a b***h!
“Go on, spit it out, and stop wasting my time. What makes you think I haven’t killed them
already? They deserve to die for what they did. Should I tell you how your daughter screamed
as I tortured her, how she sobbed and begged for you? Or how Michelle, being the hard faced
w***e she is, begged my men to take her? No, or Max, poor little Max. How he pissed himself
when I ripped his tongue from his mouth and watched as he choked on his blood. Stop playing
games with me, Grim, because I am not the one to play with.” I snap at him and he goes silent
as I listen to his breathing through the line.
“You lie. I know they’re very much alive and Max is now a member of the Devil’s Warriors. As for my condition, you accept this and you can kill them, bathe in their blood for all I care. They are useless to me, pawns. No, I want something far more valuable.” He says and I look at Kaden and his knuckles have turned white with the grip he has on the phone.
“Name it.” I snap at him.
“You, I get you. I know I said this is not your fight, but you are your momma’s daughter, so that

is my condition. I get you and then, in turn.”
“You get the access you need to the MC and mafia.” I finish for him and he chuckles.
“Clever little dove, yes. You see, you are the key. Some free food for thought Courtney Neveah Morrison. I always get what I want. You have three days to make your decision. If you don’t agree, then I will kill every last man, woman, and child under the protection of the Devil’s Warriors and Cosa Nostra.”
