Chapter 69.
Kaden POV.
I wait patiently for Courtney’s answer, only to be met with soft snores. I chuckle. She is wiped out with exhaustion. She has had too much stress lately and I do worry about what that stress
is doing to her and our baby.
She is pushing closer to her due date. She is just over the seven–month mark now and I know
she wanted all this bullshit with Grim sorted before our baby entered the world. We promised
her we would take care of it, but in the end, she took matters into her own hands.
The realisation struck me like a bolt of lightning. Courtney doesn’t need anyone. She is more than capable of doing what needs to be done on her own. No matter what it is, she can do it
all.
She has steam–rolled her way through this issue and all we could do was stand on the sidelines and watch as she took back control of everything. But she needs to learn she isn’t alone in this and I know that it is hard for her to depend on others. The only person she could
ever depend on died and left Courtney to unravel all the secrets her mom had left Courtney
with.
Caitlyn should have told her who she was long ago, but what was done, is done. We can’t change the past, only the present and the future.
I climb out of bed and throw on some clean clothes and kiss her head softly as she wiggles in her sleep. I need to head down and find out that the next stage of the plan is ready to go.
Courtney has earned the respect of everyone here and not because of who her family is, but because of her. Her tenacity to get things done, her need to create a safe environment for her
and our daughter.
I only hope that when Chief comes back, she doesn’t do something stupid. I know she has more questions right now, especially after what Grim told her about her mom and that Katie was meant to marry him, but Chief pulled out of the agreement, which caused them all to die. He is to blame for all the heartache that not only Katie endured but Courtney.
Well, not all of it. Part of that award goes to me and Wolf. Even if we were both drugged and
taken advantage of.
Still, she will want and need those answers. I only pray that the answers don’t upset her more. I know Courtney. If she thinks Chief is bullshitting her, then she will go to the man who told

her. She will go to Grim for those answers and god only knows what he will tell her.
Then there is Wolf and Storm. What will she do to them? Even I still can’t wrap my head around why we were never told that they were working for Chief. Too many secrets and I know these will do one of two things.
One, it could break Courtney further.
Two, she kills them for their betrayal.
Either way, I know she is going to be hurt no matter what way you look at it. Courtney has suffered too much all for politics and power–plays. She is not a pawn in this huge game. She is her own person and if I have to leave with her and take her and my daughter far away from
all of this, I will.
We don’t have to wait long because I know Chief and the rest of them will be here soon. The
extraction team got them out, and they were on their way here.
I walk into the office and see Fabio with Richie and they were both working. They look up at
me and smile at me. I walk to the minibar and pour myself two fingers of Jack and down it.
“I take it Courtney is sleeping?” Fabio asks and I nod my head and pour another glass before I
walk to the chair and sit down opposite them both.
“Yeah, she is exhausted. This is taking its toll on her. I don’t want her too involved with all of
this. You know she is still new to all of this.” I say as I sip the whiskey in my glass and Richie
scoffs. I look at him, raising an eyebrow at him.
“You aren’t giving her enough credit, Venom. She is more than capable of all this, as you put it. It is like watching a duck take to water. She moves effortlessly into the seat of power. If
anything, I am excited to see what she does next.” He says I scoff before I chuckle, because he
isn’t wrong.
“Well, I hope when Chief gets here, she isn’t armed. Grim told her some s**t and she will want
answers to that.” I say and Fabio chuckles and types away on the laptop as he and Richie sit
side by side, working.
“Well, if what Grim said was true, then Chief does have some explaining to do. But if he did do
all of this. There would have been a damn good reason to not allow Katie to marry Grim.” He
says, and I scoff. Well, we all can guess why.
“Doesn’t take a genius to figure that out. Grim is unhinged. He killed his father and dismantled
his mafia family. Then turned what remained into The Brothers Of Mayhem. He is power hungry and insane. Now he is after Courtney, all for power. But he underestimated her and

now what is left of his club is a charred mess of ashes and dead bodies. I don’t know what
Courtney is planning for him, but I can imagine it will be something that will have him stop
breathing.” I say and Fabio nods his head in agreement.
“I know that, but I’m concerned that Courtney may turn that wrath on Chief and her father. No
one would blame her. But she needs to see the bigger picture. I’m not saying that what Chief
did was right, it wasn’t. If Courtney decided to remove him as president and don. There is
nothing stopping her. Do you honestly think she is ready to take on those responsibilities?” Fabio says and I look at him.
“Courtney is hurting. Everything she has ever known has been a lie. Those who were meant to protect her, me included, have hurt her. If she decides to take the head of the table. Who is going to stop her? Right now, she is in control. She is in charge of all of this. A wounded animal is the most dangerous, and Courtney, whether I want to admit it or not, is wounded.” I
say because I’m right. Courtney is dealing with all the pain, and she is fighting her demons.
“I would like to think Courtney won’t do anything too impulsive. What she did to Grim was
warranted. Hell if she went after her father and her grandpa. That too would be warranted. But
I don’t think she will. Yes, she is hurt, and rightly so, but Courtney is the bigger person. Maybe
she needs to be away from all of this. That way, she can go back to normal and live peacefully with you and your daughter.” Fabio says with a heavy tone. I know what he means.
Since Courtney came back in my life, all I have wanted to do was take her far away from all of this. But like the stubborn, bull–headed woman she is. She stood firm. Not moving like a mountain. The office is silent as we take a moment to realise the truth. We aren’t doing what
is right for Courtney. That needs to change.
“Is the next part of the plan ready?” I ask when Richie gasps and I look over at him.
“Karma and his team have sent me something.” Richie says, and I raise my eyebrow, waiting
for him to carry on.
“Well, what did they send?” I ask, and he looks up from the screen to my face. He looks pale and his eyes are wide. I stand and move around the desk and look at the picture on the screen. The glass drops from my hand and smashes on the floor.
The note I read it, but I can’t make it out. It is in Italian. Fabio translates it.
Piccolo angelo, ci vediamo presto. Sto vegliando su di te, Courtney.
(Little angel, I will see you soon. I am watching over you, Courtney.) f**k!
