Courtney POV.
Back in the room, Amelia has settled and is back asleep in my arms. I’m so worried about what this will do to her, but I was told she won’t remember any of this. But I always will. I’m shaking, but not just with fear that I could have lost my daughter, but with rage.
“I don’t get it. Why would Chloe be so bold to do this?” One of the brothers asks and I look up at him and he shuts up and looks away, shuffling uncomfortably on his feet.
“She was deranged, desperate, and thought the person would give her a huge reward. I’m not going to sugarcoat who it was that put her up to this. It was Chief.” I drop the bomb and watch as everyone goes into shock.
“Y’all seem surprised that he would do this. Well, I’m not. Chloe told me everything. Chief tried to kill me and Amelia, and that goes against everything the MCs and families stand for. Children are f*****g innocent. But we all know this is not the first time Chief has done something like this. So stop f*****g gawking and get the f**k over it.” I snap as I look back down at Amelia and smile softly at her sleeping face.
My arm is bandaged up from the bullet that grazed my skin. I lift my daughter higher and kiss her little head and shuffle down to get comfortable.
“I’m going to sleep. Today has been too much as it is.” I say as I turn my body. Drawing my legs up as I snuggle closer to Amelia, but still being aware of her presence. I close my eyes
and let sleep take me.
Waking a few hours later, I look down and see Amelia looking up at me and I smile at her. I lift her gently and kiss her face.
“Good morning, little one. You hungry?” I ask as she roots against my arm and I chuckle.
“I’ll take that as a yes. Ok hungry bird, hold on.” I say as I get ready to give her a feed. Once Amelia is on my breast, I lean back against the pillow and look around the room. Kaden is asleep in the armchair and my dad is on the floor. Momma is on the sofa. I smile at this.
My family is here not so much standing guard, but their presence is calming.
“Did you sleep alright?” Kaden asks, his voice tired and scratchy. I look at him and nod my
head.
“Did you?” I ask him and he stretches and yawns as he stands and shuffles to the bed and

kisses my head before he kisses Amelia’s.
“Only for a little while. I will sleep when I’m dead.” He says and I chuckle.
“No, you won’t. You will be dead, no sleeping involved.” I say with a chuckle and he just
watches me. I look at him in confusion.
“What is it?” I ask him and he bites his bottom lip before he sobs and I reach for him and he
leans into me and sobs on my shoulder. His hand moves to Amelia’s back.
“I could have lost you both. If I didn’t come back in time, it would have been a different story.” He says through the sobs and his voice breaks. I kiss his cheek.
“I know baby, but we are both here and safe because of you. You got to us in time. I love you
Kaden and I will never forget what you did to save us.” I say to him and he kisses me when
Amelia releases my n****e if a wet pop and we both look down to see her sleeping again. Oh,
no you don’t missy.
Kaden chuckles at her as she smacks her lips and sighs. I just roll my eyes. Little madam, I
know what she is doing. Using me as a pacifier, nuh–uh little missy.
I lift her up and pop her on my shoulder and rub her back, and she wakes up. I cover myself
because no one needs to get an eye full of my boobs.
“Let her sleep.” Oh no, he didn’t.
“Nope, not happening. I know her game.” I say as I lay Amelia on the bed between my legs and
remove her clothes as Kaden chuckles and hands me a fresh diaper and a set of clothes for
her. She is wide awake now and stretching her long legs as I look into the eyes like mine and
smile at her.
I change her bottom and Kaden gags. Seriously, he better get used to it. I’m not going to be
doing everything. I know I always said this is not my circus. But it really is and they are my
monkeys.
“Oh, look who is awake and alert.” My dad says as he moves closer to the bed and he coos at
her while I get her dressed in clean clothes again.
“Yeah, using me as a pacifier, no sir.” I say and my dad chuckles as he lifts her and places her in his arms and I can see the love shining in his eyes for her.
“You ignore your momma. She was just the same. You do what you want, little lady, and if momma ever says no, you come to pops and you can have anything you want. Yes, you can. Momma can’t tell me no,” he says and I just look at him incredulously as he walks to the

“Nope, pops trumps momma and you know it. Now shush, my grandbaby is trying to listen to me. Isn’t that right, sweetheart? Yes, it is.” He coos his voice higher and I shake my head.
This is my circus now. I have just been put in my place. So whatever. I know he will do for Amelia what he never got to do with me, and that breaks my heart. So this is like his do–over.
So I know I will cave in and he can do what he wants. Apparently grandparents can get away
with s**t that I didn’t know about.
“Guys, I have decided what to do about Chief.” I say and my momma sits up, my dad looks at
me and Kaden moves closer to me.
“We don’t need to talk about this now. Emotions are high enough. Leave it be for a while,”
Kaden says, but I shake my head.
“No, I want him to think he has won.” I say and my momma gasps and I look over at her and
she shakes her head. She knows what I’m going to say. Well, she can sit quietly. She gets no
say in this. She did the same thing.
“No, you can’t. He will know the truth and when he does, he will not stop.” She says and I sigh
and rub my forehead.
“I want him to believe we are both gone. That Chloe succeeded in this plan, but it was a kill –
kill situation. Make it believable. Then, like you did, I will walk into the clubhouse and kill him. I
may even play with him first, move s**t around so he thinks he is losing his mind. Leave messages for him written in blood. But for that to work, he needs to believe I’m dead.” I tell
them and my momma shakes her head and Kaden is pissed.
“Chief is good at playing the victim, so let him believe it. Then, like a ghost, I will make my
move. While he sleeps, I’ll f**k with him, f**k with his head. Then I will kill him in front of the
clubhouse with every member, every club, and family watching as I take his life like he tried to
take yours, mine and hers. He killed his family.” I say and no one speaks.
“Why not just do it soon? Why drag it out?” My dad asks and I know he is worried that it will
backfire. But he forgets. Momma and I ran and hid for years. She trained me to do this.
“Well, a phoenix has to rise from the ashes to reach her full potential. I am that phoenix. I will
burn his world down, but there will be no coming back for him. I will watch from the shadows
as his empire crumbles. Then, as he is bleeding on the floor, I will stand over him and watch
the light leave his wide eyes. He has played us all for years and now it is time he met his
