Chapter 34
Suddenly, a figure shot forward, landing a sharp kick to Sean’s knee.
With a pained cry, Sean collapsed to the ground, instinctively releasing his grip.
Layla stumbled back and fell straight into William’s arms. Only then did she realize the one who had attacked was none other than his bodyguard, Mike.
Mike showed no mercy. Within seconds, he had beaten Sean to the point of spitting blood, leaving him sprawled on the ground, barely able to move.
Xena was completely rattled, panic flashing across her face as she rushed forward, pleading, “Mr. Lucas, Sean only acted out of desperation! Please, be the bigger person and let him go just this once.”
William didn’t even glance at her, his gaze remaining icily fixed on Sean
Mike, showing no intention of stopping, grabbed Sean by the collar and delivered another brutal punch to his stomach. Blow after blow, each one mercilessly precise.
Sean curled in on himself, his body wracked with pain, feeling as if his organs were being crushed from the inside out. He had no strength to fight back.
Seeing him on the verge of blacking out, Xena burst into tears, desperation lacing her voice as she turned to Layla “Sis, no matter what, you once loved Sean! Please, say something to Mr. Lucas.”
Layla ignored her, but she did reach out and tug on William’s sleeve.
“Mr. Lucas, there are too many eyes on us. If this gets out, it won’t look good for your reputation.”
William’s expression softened slightly, but his voice remained indifferent. “At my level, I don’t care about trivial things like that.
“The Perry family failed to discipline their own. I’m just doing them a favor by teaching him a lesson. They’ll thank me for it one day.”
With that, William shot Mike a look.
Mike finally stepped back but pressed a firm foot against Sean’s back, issuing a cold warning. “Next time, show some respect when speaking to Mr. Lucas.”
Sean barely had the strength to respond. He lay there like a broken doll, unmoving.
As William and Layla passed by, William suddenly paused, looking down at Sean with icy disdain. “I just saved you a fortune. Soon enough, you’ll be grateful.”
Sean heard the words but couldn’t make sense of them.
He could only watch as they walked away, his bloodshot eyes burning with rage,
Outside the auction venue, Layla turned to William with curiosity. “Mr. Lucas, you knew Sean would be there?”
“Yeah, I had the organizers send him an invitation.”
“What?” Layla blinked in surprise. “You didn’t… invite him just to humiliate him, did you?”
William didn’t respond, simply deflecting the question. “Weren’t you going to buy me dinner?”

William strode ahead, and Layla hesitated, watching his tall figure in the dim light.
Something felt off.
Why did it seem like William had a personal grudge against Sean?
Could Sean have wronged him in the past?
She thought back to how Sean had tried to reach out to Willm through his grandfather, only to be repeatedly shut down.
Layla narrowed her eyes.
William sure knew how to hold a grudge. Years had passed, yet he still found ways to make Sean pay.
Late at night, Sean regained consciousness in a hospital bed, his entire body aching like it had been torn apart.
“Hiss…” He sucked in a sharp breath.
Hearing the sound, Xena, who had been dozing off by his bedside, jolted awake. She blinked groggily before her eyes lit up. “Sean, you’re awake?”
“Mm.” His voice was hoarse, his throat parched.
“Don’t move–I’ll get you some water.”
Xena quickly poured a cup of warm water, inserted a straw, and held it up to his lips. “The doctor said you’ll need at least a month of rest.”
Sean took a sip, easing the dryness in his throat. His foggy mind started to clear.
