Chapter 4

“Probably just a coincidence with the name,” Landon said, a hint of surprise on his face.
“The Greene family’s heiress has been studying abroad for years. Besides, with Carter Enterprises gaining fame, if Hannah’s real parents were around, they’d have come to claim her right away.”
Darren nodded in agreement, but for some reason, he couldn’t shake the unease gnawing at him.
It felt like he’d lost something important.
Meanwhile, at the Greene family estate, I was adjusting to life with my real family.
“Uh… Mom, really, it’s okay,” I said, staring at the mountain of food piled up on my plate, half–amused, half–baffled.
“You’re too thin. You need to eat more,” Margaret said, her eyes full of affection as she looked at me.
Then she seemed to realize something and picked up my fork.
“Hannah, come on, sweetie, open up.”
My ears turned red. I’d always been the one to eat by myself, and now, at my age, being fed felt both awkward and shameful.

Aaron, standing beside us, remained stoic, but he quietly peeled my favorite shrimp and placed it in front of me.
“Here, use this,” Edward instructed the butler to bring over
a spoon and set it on the table. I looked up at him, offering a grateful smile.
I thought I’d have a hard time adjusting after leaving Landon
and Darren.
I thought that in the elite world of the Greene family, I would feel like an outsider who couldn’t fit in.
But everything turned out to be completely different than I had imagined.
When Aaron took me to my room, I was momentarily stunned.
The room was decorated in soft pastel colors, filled with plush toys of all kinds, and I couldn’t help but laugh at how childish it seemed.
“Do you like it?” Aaron asked, his usually calm face now showing a trace of uncertainty.
My eyes welled up a little, but I smiled at him.
“Thank you…”
A barely noticeable smile flickered in Aaron’s eyes.
In the days that followed, I felt the warmth of a family I hadn’t

The high–society world wasn’t as calculating as I’d expected.
As the wedding date drew nearer, I became busier.
During this time, my poker–faced brother Aaron secretly visited numerous hospitals and consulted many doctors.
He even secretly swapped out the family’s menu, replacing it with various nutritious meals and supplements.
Finally, the bulky cast on my hand was replaced with a lighter splint.
When Landon and Darren returned home, they discovered the letter and bank cards I’d left behind.
“How dare she!” Landon’s face darkened, his teeth gritting as he spoke.
Darren scowled as he called my number, using the housekeeper’s phone.
“Hannah, come on, you’re grown up now. Can you stop pulling the runaway act? Fine, fine, Xandra’s forgiven you. Just come back already. If you don’t, forget about the wedding…”
“Darren, we’re done,” I interrupted, hanging up the phone.
I yanked the SIM card out and threw it out the window.

Back at home, my parents were sitting on the sofa, watching me,
The room was filled with luxurious jewelry and gifts sent by the Rhodes family.
“Hannah, are you ready? If you’re not fully prepared, we can postpone…”
Edward thought for a moment before saying that.
“Dad, Mom, I’ve made up my mind.”
After that, Margaret and Edward took me to visit the Rhodes family. For some reason, I felt nervous, my heart racing.
The Rhodes family was the most influential of the four great families in the capital.
And the man I was about to marry was the heir to the Rhodes family.
Helen Rhodes, the matriarch, was waiting for us at the door.
When she saw me, a warm smile appeared in her
eyes.
“So, you must be Hannah. Finally, I get to meet you. I always told your mother I wanted her to have a daughter, and now, here you are. Zane’s a lucky guy!”
I couldn’t help but feel a bit nervous, but my fiancé, Zane Rhodes, was nowhere to be seen.

Instead, the butler was there, taking my documents.
When the marriage certificate was handed to me, I felt a little dreamy.
“Zane’s away handling business abroad.”
Then, Helen carefully placed a bracelet on my wrist. “This represents your future role as the lady of the house.”
“Mrs. Rhodes, this is too much…”
“Mrs. Rhodes? Sweetie, I was supposed to be your godmother! Your mom and I were best friends, and besides, you’re the one Zane has waited so long for.”
James Rhodes, the head of the family, smiled kindly at me. “Zane picked out a few things. I’ll have the butler send them to your house.”

He then turned to my brother. “Their future home is also ready. Aaron, you can take her to check it out. Let us know if you need anything.”
The Rhodes family didn’t carry themselves with the air of high society at all. They were warm and kind, like family.
In both the Greene and Rhodes families, I was treated with respect and love.
If only as first seen
