Chapter 5

When it was time to choose my wedding dress, my hand was still in a medical splint.
Margaret and Helen watched me as I tried on dress after dress.
They praised each one without hesitation.
“Zane’s such a lucky guy.”
“My precious daughter is a natural model. She looks great in everything.”
I smiled, my eyes squinting with joy, until I saw the last dress hanging in the back.
A wave of shock washed over me.
It was the design I’d won first place for in a competition three years ago!
The prize money had all gone into Landon and Darren’s startup fund.
At the time, a mysterious buyer had purchased it…
This bridal store was under the Rhodes family’s name. So it was him…

My hand instinctively reached out for the gown. “I want to try this one.”
But with my hand in the splint, I couldn’t zip it up fully.
I tried to do it myself, but a pair of hands gently stopped me.
“Allow me.” The voice was warm, like a spring breeze, soft and soothing.
Then, he carefully placed the veil on my head. As I turned, my eyes met his–handsome and serene.
Especially his eyes, filled with tenderness.
“It looks beautiful on you,” he suddenly said, a smile in his eyes.
“Hello, let me introduce myself. I’m your husband, Zane Rhodes.”
I stammered, just realizing that Margaret and Helen had slipped out to go shopping.
Those moms!
He gently tied a lace white rose on my right hand, carefully covering my injury.
I stared at his serious face and suddenly understood my parents‘ intentions.
Some kinds of love weren’t about letting someone do whatever

they want, but about carefully selecting what was best for them.
In the days leading up to the wedding, Zane and I had been busy with preparations.
He was just as serious about choosing everything as I had been when I was planning my other wedding.
A serious person deserved to have their efforts appreciated.
The wedding day finally arrived, and Aaron escorted me to the
ceremony.
For some reason, the usually expressionless Aaron had red, puffy eyes.
I covered my mouth, not calling him out, but I couldn’t help smiling.
Ever since returning to the Greene family, my smile had returned too.
It felt like I was becoming the carefree Hannah I once was.
Many influential figures were attending the wedding, making it a grand event.
Landon and Darren, the up–and–coming stars of the business world, were among them.
As we rode in the wedding car, I couldn’t help but feel nervous. I rolled down the window, and another car brushed past ours.

In that fleeting moment, I looked into the faces of Landon and Darren–pale and hollow–eyed.
