I loved her more than anything in this world, and that would never change. I felt her faint heartbeat, trying to reconnect with the strength that once was. Gently, I held her hand tighter, hoping that my touch would bring a little warmth and hope amidst this darkness.
“Sabrina,” I whispered, “I’m here. We’ll get through this together.” I stared at her pale face, trying to find any sign that she was listening. Deep in my heart, I believed that little by little, she would come back to me. Together, we will face all these fears, and our love will be the bridge to cross every obstacle.
I held her hand again, my rough fingers touching her cold skin.
“Sabrina, please wake up,” I whispered, almost like a prayer. “Charlie needs you. I… I need you too.”
The silence in the room was oppressive. Only the thrumming of the medical machines could be heard, as if time had stopped between each faltering breath. My heart pounded, fighting against the gnawing anxiety.
The nurses always said that patience was key, but how could I possibly stay calm as Sabrina lay helpless? Every second felt like years, and the shadows of fear filled my mind. What would happen if she didn’t wake up?
I held her cold hand, hoping my warmth would reach her soul. Her usually cheerful face now looked pale and weak. I remembered her laughter and smile, and the pain deepened.
Maybe, just maybe, with love and hope, I could bring her back from this darkness. I knew I had to hold on to her.
Then, slowly, her eyelids moved.
It was a small, almost imperceptible movement at first, but it was enough to make me jump. “Sabrina?” I called, my voice filled with deep hope.
She opened her eyes slightly, struggling to focus at first. But it was enough to make me feel relieved. My chest was tight with a feeling that was hard to explain.
“Sabrina, are you awake?” I asked quickly, maybe too quickly. “Do you know where you are? How do you feel What do you feel?”
She looked at me with tired eyes, her lips slightly parted as if she wanted to say something, but no sound came out. Her face looked confused, and I felt my heart sink to see her like that.
“Don’t worry, I’m here,” I said softly, trying to reassure her
I felt the tension between us, a bridge of hope beginning to form again. Though words couldn’t come out, I could feel her presence, and that was enough to strengthen me.
“You’re in the hospital,” I continued without waiting for an answer. “You passed out last night, Sabrina. I found you in the kitchen. You had a high fever… why didn’t you tell me before? Why did you hide this from me? Has this been going on for a long time? The doctor said-”
“Nicholas,” she finally whispered, her voice hoarse. She looked at me with a weak but confused expression. “What are you talking about? Slow down…”
I realized that I might have been panicking and rushing. My breath hitched, and I tried to calm myself. “I’m sorry, “I said more softly, though there was still a sense of urgency in my voice.
“I just… I’m worried, Sabrina. Do you know how bad your condition is? Why didn’t you ever tell me about this? What really happened?”

She closed her eyes for a moment as if trying to gather the strength to answer. “I didn’t want to… trouble you,” she said softly,
“How could you think that?” 1 grabbed her hand tighter, afraid of hurting her. “You’re making it hard for yourself to hide this, Sabrina! The doctor said you missed your chemo schedule. Why?”
She paused, hesitating to answer. “I… I just didn’t want anyone to know,” she said finally. “I wanted to try to go through this on my own.”
“You don’t have to go through this alone,” I said quickly, almost cutting him off. “I was here. I, I should have known. I should have paid more attention. I’m sorry…”
Her eyes met mine again, this time with a few tears welling up in them. “I just didn’t want to be a burden, Nicholas,” she said, more quietly. “I know you have a lot to take care of…”
I shook my head quickly. “Don’t ever think like that again, said firmly, though thy heart was filled with emotion. “You’re not a burden, Sabrina. You… you matter. You matter to me, to Charlie. Please, don’t hide this from me anymore.”
She didn’t answer; she just stared at me with teary eyes. In her gaze, I could feel the uncertainty and deep fear. The room was silent again, but this time the silence felt warmer, like a comforting hug.
I took a deep breath, trying to convey all the love and support I felt. “I’m here for you,” I continued, “always. We’ll get through this together.”
As my words fell, I saw the hesitation in his eyes. He nodded slowly, but the shadow of fear still haunted his face. Our hands intertwined, and I tried to give him strength through my touch. I would not let him feel alone again.
Outside the window, heavy rain poured down on the earth, creating a soothing rhythm. In the silence that enveloped me, the sounds of nature seemed to support my words. “Will you go through this storm with me?” I asked, remembering the moments when we supported each other in trouble.
I could feel the tension in his shoulders starting to loosen. “Yes,” he answered softly, “I will.”
“Every time we fall, we always get back up. We will not give up. Together, we will face all these fears,” I continued, strengthening my faith. “I believe, little by little, you will come back to me.”
He closed his eyes, as if trying to absorb all the hope I offered. “I want to believe that,” she whispered, her voice almost drowned out by the rain.
I tightened my grip on her, assuring her that she wasn’t alone. “We’ll do it. I’ll be by your side, through every step and every tear. We’ll find our way to the light again.”
Slowly, she opened her eyes, and for the first time, there was a glimmer of hope. “Thank you,” she said, her voice shaking.
A small smile spread across her face, and I knew that, though this journey was long, we would face it together.
