Sabrina’s POV
Nicholas came in with a glass of water. He placed it on my bedside table without saying anything, then walked to the other side of the bed. I frowned, confused by his actions.
He stood for a moment, as if considering something. Ilis paze was soft, and I could feel genuine concern in his manner. The silence between us was comfortable, even though there was much left unsaid.
Nicholas then nodded toward the glass of water. “Drink if you feel thirsty,” he said softly. I nodded, reaching for the glass and savoring the freshness of the water.
This simple moment reminded me of the little acts of attention that often mean more than words. Despite the challenges ahead, Nicholas‘ presence beside me gave me a sense of security and hope.
“What are you doing?” I asked, my voice barely a whisper.
Nicholas stared at me for a moment as he unbuttoned his shirt cuff. “I’ll sleep here,” he answered casually.
“Here? You mean, in this room?” I could hardly believe my ears.
“Yes, here. Why? Do you mind?” he asked, raising an eyebrow, then took off his watch and placed it on the small table beside the bed.
I was silent for a moment, not knowing how to respond. Before this, Nicholas had rarely slept with me anymore. That habit had slowly faded as the distance between us grew. Now, hearing that he would be sleeping in the same room made me feel mixed. I felt happy, but also nervous.
The words brought back memories of our time together, of times when we felt close and supportive. But realizing how much had changed in our relationship made me doubtful. Was this a sign that we were starting to mend things, or was it just a temporary thing?
“No… I just didn’t expect it,” I finally said, trying to keep my tone light.
Nicholas pulled up the covers and lay down next to me. “From now on, I’ll sleep here with you. I won’t leave you alone again, Sabrina.”
His words made me feel warm inside. Even though there was so much we hadn’t talked about, his presence beside me gave me a much–needed sense of security. In the stillness of the night, I could feel the tension slowly disappearing, replaced by comfort and peace.
I stared at him for a moment, trying to process all the emotions that were overflowing. This moment–felt like a small step towards healing, both for myself and for our relationship. With Nicholas by my side, I felt more prepared for whatever was to come.
His words were so simple, but they had such a big impact. I stared at the ceiling, trying to hold back the emotions that suddenly filled my chest. There was silence for a moment, the only sound I could hear was our breathing in the dim room.
“I don’t know what to say,” I finally mumbled. “Thank you?”
Nicholas chuckled. “You don’t have to thank me. This is something I should have done a long time ago.”
Hearing his answer, my heart felt lighter. There was a warmth in his presence that made me feel less alone on this Journey. This moment, though simple, reminded me that we still had each other, and that meant so much.
I turned to him. His face looked calm in the dim light, but I could see the guilt in his eyes.

“Why did you suddenly change like this?” I asked softly, trying to dig into his mind.

He sighed, staring at the ceiling for a moment before answering “Because I realized I’ve been ignoring you for too long. I’ve been busy with my work, with all the things that shouldn’t be more important than you and Charlie. And now… seeing you like this, I don’t want to waste any more time.”
His words made my heart feel warm, but also sad. I looked at him, trying to find sincerity in his eyes, and I found It there. There was a deep sense of regret, but also a comment to making things right.
Silence fell over us again, but this time it didn’t feel heavy, instead, there was a new hope growing between us. In this moment, I felt that even though our journey was challenging, we didn’t have to do it alone.
I nodded, grateful for his courage to express his feelings. It was a small step, but it was an important one for both of us. With Nicholas by my side, I felt like we could start rebuilding what had been lost.
“I never thought you’d say that,” I said honestly. “Sometimes, I feel like… I’m just an accessory in your life. Especially since Hazel came back.”
Nicholas turned to me, his expression serious. “I never thought of you as an accessory, Sabrina. I know I made you feel that way, and I’m so sorry. But you’re the most important part of my life, more than you probably realize.”
His words touched me. There was a sincerity in his voice that made me feel valued and loved. Despite all the hardships and tensions we’d been through, hearing this confession gave me new hope.
“I want us to be able to fix this,” he continued. “I promise be there for you and Charlie more. We have to face this together.”
I felt tears welling up in my eyes. I covered them with my hands, not wanting him to see me cry.
“Why are you crying?” he asked, his tone full of concern.
“I just…” I sniffled, taking a deep breath. “I just like that. After everything that happened, I thought you didn’t care about me anymore.
Nicholas leaned in closer, gently touching my arm. “I’ve always cared about you, Sabrina. I was just stupid for not showing it the right way.”

He shook his head. “This isn’t about guilt. This is about me wanting to fix things. I want to be the husband you need again. And the father Charlie needs.”
I fell silent at his words. The nervousness in my heart began to give way to an inexplicable warmth. I pulled the blanket higher, trying to hide the small smile that was forming on my lips.
