Nicholas’s POV
Seeing that change in him made my heart heavy. I wanted to see him happy and hoped today could be a special moment for him. I tried to think of a way to cheer him up, ensuring he felt loved and cared for.
I took a deep breath, trying to choose the right words. I turned back to look at him. “Mommy Sabrina is resting, sweetheart. She really wishes she could be here, but she needs some time to recover,”
Charlie looked at me with wide, hopeful eyes. “Really, Daddy? We’re really going to see Mommy Sabrina?”
I smiled and nodded. “Of course. After lunch, we’ll go there”
Joy immediately returned to his face. “Yay!” he cheered, bouncing in his seat, even though he was still strapped in.
Sabrina would be waiting for us at home, and I knew Charlie couldn’t wait to see her. That made me even more determined to do my best to keep this relationship intact, no matter how challenging it might be.
For Sabrina. For Charlie. And for our family.
I wanted to ensure they felt safe and happy. In my heart, I was resolved to strengthen our bond, even if challenges lay ahead. We were a family, and I would fight to maintain this togetherness.
When the car stopped in front of the house, Charlie could hardly contain his excitement. As soon as I opened the door, he leaped out with incredible enthusiasm.
“Mommy Sabrina! I’m here!” he shouted loudly, then ran toward the front door.
I followed him, carrying a small bag with his toys. The front door was already open, and Sabrina stood there with a warm smile that looked very genuine. She appeared fresher today, even though there were still traces of fatigue in her eyes.
“Charlie!” Sabrina called softly, opening her arms wide.
Charlie jumped into Sabrina’s embrace with enthusiasm. “Imissed you, Mommy Sabrina!”
“I missed you too, sweetheart.” Sabrina hugged him tightly, her face shining with a happiness that was hard to express in words. She kissed Charlie’s hair and gently stroked his back.
Watching them like that warmed my heart, although a twinge of guilt crept in. I stood behind them, witnessing without wanting to intrude.
After a while, Sabrina finally set Charlie down. “Are you hungry, sweetheart?” she asked gently.
Charlie nodded quickly, his eyes sparkling. “So hungry, Mommy!‘
Sabrina chuckled softly. “Good thing Mommy made your favorite food. Come on in!”
Charlie’s excitement was contagious as he rushed toward the table. Seeing him so happy filled my heart with warmth. Sabrina’s efforts to create a comforting atmosphere, even in her condition, were truly remarkable. It w moments like these that reminded me of the strength of our family bonds and the love that connected us all.
I closed the door and followed them into the dining room. At the table, I saw several dishes neatly prepared- spaghetti bolognese, chicken nuggets, and a large bowl of fruit salad.
I was stunned to see Sabrina had prepared everything, even though she wasn’t fully recovered. A sense of admiration and gratitude enveloped me. She always strived to give her best for our family, even when facing difficulties.

Watching her, I felt a deep appreciation for her strength and dedication. Despite her challenges, she created a warm and welcoming environment for Charlie and me. It reminded me of the importance of family and the love that binds us together, even in tough times.
“Wow, Mommy! Everything looks delicious!” Charlie exclained with wide eyes, making the atmosphere even warmer. I felt relieved to see the smile on Sabrina’s face, and I knew today would be a special moment for all of us.
“You didn’t have to go through all this trouble,” I said softly as I sat down.
Sabrina merely smiled slightly while pouring juice for Charlie. “I wanted to do it. Seeing Charlie happy is the best medicine for me.
Charlie was already seated, eagerly scooping up spaghetti. This is so good, Mommy!” he said while chewing, making the atmosphere even cheerier.
Watching them both, my heart felt warm. These simple moments reminded me of the importance of
togetherness, and I was determined to keep this relationship strong. I wanted to support Sabrina and Charlie, and today was a small step toward that.
Sabrina chuckled lightly. “Eat slowly, sweetheart. You might choke.”
I watched Sabrina closely as she helped Charlie eat. There was warmth and love in every movement she made. Though her body might still be weak, she was giving her best for our child.
Seeing their interaction made me feel fortunate to have them in my life. Every smile and laugh they shared strengthened my resolve to fight for their happiness.
“How are you feeling today?” I asked, trying to ensure she was okay.
Sabrina turned to me, still smiling gently. “Better, thank you. I had enough rest yesterday.”
Hearing that eased my worries. I wanted to ensure she received all the attention and support needed for a full
recovery.
“That’s good to hear. I’m glad. If there’s anything I can do to help, don’t hesitate to let me know, okay?” Sabrina nodded, and I could see the calm in her eyes.
I nodded back, feeling a bit relieved. Charlie continued to talk about school, his friends, and his desire for another picnic together. Sabrina listened attentively, occasionally interjecting with questions or small laughs.
Seeing them connect made my heart warm. Charlie’s joy and Sabrina’s support created a cozy and loving atmosphere at the dining table.
It was the simple togetherness I had long missed, yet filled with warmth. I vowed to myself that I wouldn’t let this kind of moment slip away again.
After lunch was finished, Charlie helped Sabrina clear the table with enthusiasm, though he mostly played rather than genuinely helping. 1 merely smiled at them, feeling that today was a small step toward something better.
Amidst the chaos of our lives, moments like this reminded me that family was what mattered most. Their laughter and our simple togetherness lightened my day. I promised myself to keep fighting for their happines.
