Hazel stayed by my side, gripping my arm tightly as if to ensure I wouldn’t go anywhere. Amidst the chaos, I tried to remain calm, hoping that everything would improve soon.
“This is all because you’re so stubborn!” she complained, pushing my wheelchair towards the ER.
“Look at what happened now! Charlie is scared!”
As Hazel spoke, I felt the emotional burden from the car shift to this situation. The guilt weighed heavier as I saw Charlie still crying in the back, his face filled with worry.
Hazel pushed the wheelchair quickly, and I could sense the tension between us. Even though I knew she was worried, her tone made me feel worse. In my heart, I promised to be more careful in the future and not neglect my own health.
I turned to Charlie, who was now holding Hazel’s hand with a worried expression.
“Dad is
is okay, sweetheart,” I said softly, though my voice sounded weak.
However, Hazel didn’t give me a chance to defend myself. “Be quiet, Nicholas! Don’t say anything right now. I’ll make sure you get checked properly,” she said firmly.
Frustration and worry enveloped the atmosphere, while I could only sit in the wheelchair and let them handle everything. Seeing Charlie’s frightened face made me feel even guiltier.
Hazel quickly spoke with the medical staff, explaining my situation with an urgent tone. Inside, I hoped everything would get better soon, and I could reassure both of them.
Upon arriving at the ER, I was immediately laid on a bed and examined by a doctor.
Hazel stood by my side, scrutinizing every step the nurse and doctor took as if ensuring they missed no detail. Meanwhile, Charlie sat on a chair near the door, still holding Hazel’s hand tightly.
The atmosphere in the room felt tense, with the sounds of medical equipment beeping and brief conversations between the doctor and nurse. I could feel Hazel’s intense concern, which made me feel a little calmer, even though the pain still bothered me.
Charlie looked anxious, his face showing deep worry. I wished I could assure him that everything would be okay, but for now, I could only lie there and follow the examination process.
The doctor frowned after examining my wound.
“The cut on your forehead is quite deep. But I’m concerned about the symptoms you experienced, like dizziness and loss of balance earlier. We need to do a CT scan to ensure there’s no serious head injury,” he said.
The doctor’s words introduced a new tension in the room. Hazel looked increasingly worried, while Charlie remained seated, waiting hopefully.
I felt a mix of fear and relief; on one hand, I wanted to know what was really going on, but on the other hand, I worried about the results. The doctor explained the procedure calmly, and I tried to stay composed, even though uncertainty haunted my mind.
“CT scan?” Hazel repeated, her voice filled with anxiety.
She turned to me, her eyes softening. “Nicholas, did you hear that? We have to do this. There’s no other choice.”

The worry on her face weighed heavily on me. I nodded slowly, understanding the importance of this examination. Deep down, I knew that even though this procedure made me anxious, it was a necessary step to ensure my safety.
Hazel remained by my side, providing the support I needed, Charlie still sat in the chair, looking at me hopefully, as if believing that everything would be alright. The atmosphere in the room felt hopeful, despite the lingering
tension.
I wanted to argue, to say that I was fine, but seeing Hazel and Charlie’s worried faces, I couldn’t bring myself to do
- it.
“Alright,” I replied softly.
With that decision, I felt a bit of relief, as if the burden on my shoulders had lightened. Hazel sighed, and although she still looked anxious, there was a glimmer of hope in her eyes.
Charlie continued to hold Hazel’s hand, watching me intently. The atmosphere in the room remained tense, but I knew this step was for my own good.
The CT scan didn’t take long, though waiting for the results made the atmosphere even more tense,
truly Hazel and Charlie stayed close to me, and even though I knew Hazel was still angry, I could feel that she t cared. Her face showed a mix of anxiety and attentiveness, while Charlie occasionally glanced at me with hope. My heart raced as time passed. The medical equipment beeped softly in the background, adding to the tense atmosphere. I tried to calm myself, thinking positively so I could give them a little peace.
When the doctor finally returned with the scan results, I could see Hazel holding her breath.
“There is no serious damage to his brain,” the doctor said, causing Hazel to sigh in relief. “However, he needs complete rest and should avoid excessive stress. If there are any other symptoms, such as vomiting or loss of consciousness, return to the hospital immediately.”
Hearing that good news enveloped the room in relief. Hazel smiled faintly, though she still looked anxious. Charlie nodded, appearing calmer after hearing the results.
The doctor continued explaining the next steps, but all our attention was focused on the good news just delivered. Although there were still risks, at least for now, I felt better knowing there was no serious injury threatening me. Hazel nodded, taking note of every word the doctor said. After the doctor left, she turned to me, staring intently.
“You heard that, Nicholas? Complete rest. I don’t want to see you reckless like this again.”
I gave a small smile, trying to ease her tension.
“Okay, okay. I promise I’ll rest.”
The expression on Hazel’s face softened a bit, though her firmness was still evident. She looked relieved yet worried, and I could feel how much she cared for me. Charlie smiled, as if supporting Hazel’s statement.
The atmosphere in the room began to feel lighter, and even though I knew challenges lay ahead, their presence gave me strength to face everything.
Charlie approached, holding my hand with his small hands.
“Dad, you can’t get sick again,” he said softly, his eyes glistening.
I gently ruffled Charlie’s hair.
“I’m okay, sweetheart. I’ll get better.”
