Chapter 6
She seemed to have inexhaustible energy to use. When he meditated in the Prayer Garden, she would always prepare a bowl of hot soup for him.
She deliberately fell into his arms in her thin clothes. He coldly pushed her away every time.
When he was sick, she was so anxious that she cried until his eyes were red. Thinking of this, the corners of his mouth involuntarily rose. In the next second, Benedict was stunned.
Gaundetia had already left. He loved Charlotte. What was the point of thinking about this?
All of these subtle differences, Benedict blamed on the change of habits. After all, it was normal for him to be a little uncomfortable after being together for so long and leaving suddenly.
He convinced himself this way and even carefully prepared a proposal ring. Benedict intended to give Charlotte a grand proposal ceremony.
Until that rainy night. He finished the business meeting early and went home. Just as he walked to the door of the Prayer Garden, he heard ambiguous sounds coming from inside.
It was like a cat purring and it was like something weird. His steps paused. His eyes were suddenly cold.
“Well, come again.” Charlotte’s sweet voice carried a debauchery he had never
heard before.
“You say, if Mr. Benedict knows that I’m sleeping with you in his house…”
The man’s heavy breathing mixed with vulgar laughter. “Do you think he will be -mad?”
Benedict was stiff in the doorway. His knuckles turned white. The voice was the driver.
“About him?” Charlotte snorted, “It’s like a piece of wood. It’s useless for my sister to chase after her for so many years! It’s better to be a widow than to be
with him!”
The driver laughed and suggested, “Why don’t we get your sister here too? You guys together can…”
“What? Is she worthy of it?”

Charlotte’s voice suddenly became steep and sharp. “I dared not say anything when her mother was pushed down the stairs. She deserves to marry a disabled person!”
Benedict’s blood was clotting. His chest was also churned with anger. He sat in the car and dialled his friend’s phone number.
“Christopher, help me check all the details of Charlotte Winifred.”
He drove his car and turned his head to the Ermintrude Family’s old mansion. Just after Benedict arrived at the old mansion, Christopher’s phone call came.
“Benedict, prepare yourself mentally first.”
Benedict replied, “Explain now.”
Christopher sighed on the other end of the phone. “This Charlotte looks harmless, but actually plays something very well. She was in a car accident and turned into a vegetative state that year, it was because she played too crazily with someone in the car.”
Benedict’s hand shook. His cell phone almost fell to the ground.
On the dinner table, the old man knocked the bowl. “Stupid brat, what are you thinking about?”
Benedict, however, suddenly said, “Grandpa, do you still remember the girl who saved me from the swimming pool when I was a child? Was her name Charlotte Winifred?”
The old man stroked his beard to recall. “By the way, that girl said that her name was called by her mom’s surname and it was Mortimer. She was from the Mortimer Family. She asked us to call her Momo.”
My cutlery fell to the ground with a “bang“. She came from the Mortimer Family. So her last name was Mortimer.
“Isn’t Gaundetia’s mom? The precise surname Mortimer, right?”
Could it be that all these years, he had loved the wrong person? Benedict trembled. He clicked on the phone, the search box “Winifred Family and Mortimer“.
When the search results jumped out, he felt dizzy. When he returned to the empty villa, Christopher sent another video.
Charlotte was entangled with several men of different skin colours in the dimly lit clubhouse. Benedict turned off the video. A sneer appeared on the corner of
her mouth.

The phone call from the person in charge of the resort came at the right time. “Mr. Benedict, I found out that Ms. Gaudentia was injured and suffered at our resort. Someone did something without our knowledge.”
He sat in the dimly lit living room for a while. His knuckles were pounding on his phone screen.
After a long time, he sent a message to Charlotte.
Benedict: [Tomorrow night at seven o’clock, Imperial View Hotel, I prepared a surprise for you.]
