Chapter 11
Ethan visited the ocean daily.
He would stand at the shore, clutching our marriage certificate and mumbling to himself.
“Olivia, just come back, and I’ll sign the divorce papers.”
“Madison is dead. There won’t be anyone between us ever again.”
“Olivia, don’t leave me alone. I miss you so much.”
“I truly understand my mistakes now.”
Locals thought he was mentally ill. Children often threw stones at him.
Gradually, he seemed to actually lose his grip on reality.
He would stop random women on the street who resembled me, grabbing their arms and begging them to come home with
him.
This earned him numerous beatings.
Soon after, loan sharks came looking for him, but the company’s actual control had already passed to people I’d appointed.
He couldn’t withdraw a cent from the business, and his cars and properties had already been transferred to my name.
The debt collectors were ruthless, concerned only with money.
The million dollars he’d borrowed to ransom Madison had ballooned to five million.
With nowhere to turn, he jumped from a building.
He didn’t die but was paralyzed.
His parents, despite everything, couldn’t bear to see him suffer. They scraped together enough to pay his debts.
As Jackson whispered these updates in my ear, I felt a strange dissatisfaction.
Hadn’t Ethan sworn that if he ever betrayed me again, he would suffer a fate worse than death?
After countless betrayals, his current situation didn’t seem severe enough.
I rose from my lounge chair. It was time to return to America.
When Ethan saw me, he froze momentarily before his eyes lit up with excitement.

“Olivia, is it really you? I thought I was dreaming again.”
“I knew you had to be alive.”
“Where have you been all this time? I’ve missed you terribly.”
“Are you hurt?”
1 raised an eyebrow, annoyed.
“God, do you ever shut up?”
He immediately fell silent, though his eyes remained bright.
1 clapped my hands, and the door opened.
When he saw the person who had been pushed through the door, Ethan’s eyes widened in shock.
“You… how are you still alive?”
When he pushed Madison into the ocean, she hadn’t died.
Jackson’s men had fished her out.
They’d been waiting for this moment–when enemies meet face to face.
I turned to Ethan. “Happy reunion, isn’t it? I spent quite a bit saving her life. I guess you two have lots to catch up on.”
Ethan panicked, his entire body shaking. “Olivia, don’t go. I still-”
His words were cut short by Madison’s knife.
Then, there was a series of agonized screams.
Outside the door, I listened with satisfaction, my steps lighter as I walked away.
Ethan died.
A bad death, just as he’d promised would happen if he betrayed me again.
His body was covered in wounds, even his eyes had been gouged out.
Madison, driven insane by trauma, wandered into traffic in a daze and was struck by a speeding car.
She died too.
I stood by the floor–to–ceiling windows of my penthouse, contentedly sipping a glass of Bordeaux.
Outside, fireworks exploded across the Manhattan skyline in vibrant, magnificent bursts.

Jackson wrapped his arms around my waist from behind.
“Do you like the fireworks, beautiful?”
“Yeah. They’re stunning.“.
He smiled smugly, his lips grazing my ear.
“Then Ethan’s ashes have served their purpose after all.”
