The question hung in the air, heavy with implications Kailee didn’t dare voice. Deep down, she knew Elizabeth loved Elijah, even if she masked it with indifference now. That love had cost her dearly—her pride, her peace, maybe even herself. And yet, Kailee couldn’t help but feel a twinge of envy. If she had the chance to stand beside someone like Albin, she’d cling to it with both hands. Despite her superior background, she had never had the chance to enter a relationship.
Elizabeth, unfazed, shrugged lightly. “Have I ever so much as touched the Norris family’s wealth for myself?”
Kailee hesitated. She knew the answer but couldn’t admit it.
Refusing to back down, she fired her last shot. “Do you really mean it? You don’t love Elijah anymore?”
Elizabeth’s expression hardened, her voice steady and cold. “No, I don’t. Love is a luxury, and not everyone is worth the cost.”
Elijah approached, concerned Kailee might be harassing Elizabeth. Instead, he discovered Elizabeth confidently declaring her emotional detachment. He felt like a fool.
Elizabeth now resembled a defensive cat, prepared to scratch anyone who threatened her. She would no longer suffer in silence.
Rage burning beneath his calm exterior, Elijah spoke coldly. “Elizabeth, bad habits are easily acquired, but good ones require dedication. You’ve achieved nothing, yet you speak such nonsense. Marriage transcends love—it’s about responsibility.”
Soren, sensing the escalating tension, intervened. “Mr. James, this is a public space. Choose your words carefully. If paparazzi capture any negative remarks about my lead actress, I’ll hold you accountable.” His meaningful glance carried a clear warning. “Moreover, it’s quite inappropriate for a man to berate a woman publicly.”
Elijah’s eyes darkened as he positioned himself protectively—or possessively—in front of Elizabeth. “I’m addressing my wife. What business is this of yours?”
Soren ignored Elijah’s claim and turned to Elizabeth. “I apologize for tonight’s complications. Allow me to take you home.”
Just as Elizabeth appeared ready to accept, Elijah seized her wrist. “You’re coming home with me.”
