Regaining his composure, he stood and methodically dressed, pulling his shirt back on before moving towards the door.
“Wait.” Carrie’s voice interrupted his departure.
She approached, extending the ointment towards him. “You can have Oliver apply this
later,”
her tone carried an unspoken dismissal—a clear message to stay away.
Kristopher accepted the ointment in silence, his expression darkening. He left without uttering a word.
As Carrie moved to close the door, a fleeting shadow caught her peripheral vision.
She stepped into the hallway, scanning the corridor, but found only emptiness.
The shadow had passed by the rooms of Asher, the director, and two other minor
actors.
Perhaps someone was simply taking a moment to breathe, she thought.
The incident barely registered as significant. She closed the door, returning to the quiet sanctuary of her room.
The dawn broke clear the next day, painting the sky with a warm, golden hue.
Elizabeth rose early, dressed in her attire, and set out to join the film crew.
Her long hair cascaded freely down her back, complementing the long-sleeved dress she wore. The gentle morning light embraced her, enveloping her in a tranquil glow.
Descending the grand staircase, Elizabeth’s eyes landed on Oliver. He paced near the entrance, frequently glancing at his watch with a mix of impatience and worry.
Seeing her, his face brightened with relief, and he hurried over, holding a small, neatly wrapped package. “Ms. Sophia,” he began breathlessly, offering her the package. “Mr. James sent over some new ointment for you. There’s also a freshly prepared breakfast to start your day.”
Elizabeth hesitated, letting the package hover between them. “Oliver, I’d prefer if you didn’t call me Ms. Sophia anymore,” she said firmly but kindly.
Oliver, speaking quickly, explained, “Ms. Sophia, there’s no need to worry—I personally saw the crew at the gate; there’s no one here to eavesdrop.”
“It’s not about being overheard,” Elizabeth interjected, her voice dropping, a resolute look in her eyes. She tucked a loose strand of hair behind her ear and continued softly, “I’ve already handed Elijah the divorce papers. The title doesn’t suit me anymore.”
