“Do you think I would embarrass Elizabeth in front of everyone?” she snapped.
“That’s not what I meant,” Elijah replied calmly.
Elizabeth shot him a quick glance before she turned to follow Billie.
The late-arriving guests were individuals of higher status, those with closer ties to the James family.
Many had heard whispers about Elizabeth’s rumored divorce.
In their eyes, a Cinderella daring to divorce her wealthy husband was likely playing a calculated game to secure greater advantages.

Now, seeing her standing next to Billie, they couldn’t help but compare. Billie’s exquisite violet jade necklace, while graceful, seemed dim in comparison to the brilliance of the diamond around Elizabeth’s neck.
