“When has the Norris family ever stooped to using spoiled seafood in our meals? Drop the bag right here. I’ll make sure the supplier comes over immediately to give us a proper explanation,” Elizabeth said firmly.
Elijah, having stepped silently out of the car, now stood behind her, his presence heightening the tension.
Together, their commanding presence turned the situation unbearably heavy.
Lowering her head, Ms. Sandra refused to meet their eyes. “It didn’t come from the Norris family. It’s my mistake—I bought it on my own because it was affordable.”
Ms. Sandra tried to slip away, but Oliver moved swiftly, stepping in front of her to block her escape.
“You were warned when you started working here,” Oliver said sharply. “Outside ingredients are not allowed without approval. Everything in this house is sourced specifically by the Norris family.”
With quick reflexes, he snatched the plastic bag from her hands before she could react.
He opened the bag, carefully inspecting its contents. After a moment, he passed it to Elizabeth and Elijah. “It’s just some health supplements,” he noted.
Elizabeth peered into the bag and frowned. Glancing up at Elijah, she asked, “Isn’t this the supplement your mom gave me?”
“It is,” Elijah confirmed, his gaze turning icy as he stared at Ms. Sandra. “You might want to start talking.”
“If you won’t explain yourself, fine,” Oliver added, his tone dripping with menace. “I’ll report you for theft. Do you realize how much these are worth? Enough to land you in prison for years.”
Ms. Sandra dropped her familiar act of pleading for pity.
“Please, Ms. Sophia,” Ms. Sandra begged, tears streaming down her face. “My son just got engaged, and I’m hoping for a grandchild soon. There was so much supplement—I thought you wouldn’t notice if I took some for him.”
Elizabeth’s face hardened with disbelief. “You’ve been working here for a long time, and while I may not treat you like family, I’ve never been unfair. I’ve let you take the leftover ingredients without complaint. Why steal something you could have just asked for?”
Ms. Sandra wailed loudly, though no tears came. “It was greed. I couldn’t help myself!”
Elizabeth, clearly done with the discussion, waved her hand dismissively. “Enough. Let’s not drag this out.”
“Thank you, Ms. Sophia…” Ms. Sandra began hesitantly.
But before she could finish, Elizabeth turned sharply to Oliver. “Oliver, calculate her final wages and arrange a car. She’s leaving Bayview Villa today.”
The blood drained from Ms. Sandra’s face as she realized Elizabeth wasn’t bluffing—her decision was final.
In desperation, she turned to Elijah, hoping for sympathy. “Mr. James… I’ve been here for years. Even if I’ve faltered, I’ve worked hard. I’ll give up this month’s wages to pay for the health supplement.”
Working as a housekeeper for the Norris family paid as much as a mid-level manager at a large firm, and their rules were far more lenient than other affluent households.
On top of that, she had been earning a substantial side income from Sandra.
Losing this position would be disastrous. She couldn’t possibly cover her family’s towering mortgage or her son’s mounting gambling debts.
Elijah didn’t spare her a glance. “Decisions regarding the household are entirely Ms. Sophia’s.”
Out of options and consumed by fear, Ms. Sandra dropped to her knees, pleading, “Ms. Sophia, I swear I won’t do it again. Please, have mercy. My family relies on this job to survive.”
Abandoning any pretense, she bowed low, her forehead hitting the floor with an audible thud, echoing with the weight of her desperation.
