Just then, Sophia entered, carrying a stack of paperwork. “Mr. James, the examination results are in. Everything looks satisfactory. It’s all under control. What a relief!”
Elijah nodded solemnly, absorbing her words before refocusing on Sandra. “I need to return to the office now. Oliver will visit later to assist you. If anything arises, just have Sophia inform him of the requirements.”
Sandra noticed the subtle preoccupation flickering across his expression, and part of her wanted to request that he stay. Yet, after a moment’s pause, she offered a supportive grin and responded with quiet understanding, “You should go. I’ll handle things on my own.”
After Elijah departed, Sophia quietly closed the door with a soft click and turned to Sandra, her face gleaming with enthusiasm. “You won’t believe who I ran into earlier!”
Disinterestedly discarding the reports into the bin, Sandra arched an eyebrow in mild curiosity. “Who was it?”
“Elizabeth Campbell, along with her agent, Ruby Curtis,” Sophia replied, dragging a chair closer to the cot. Her tone brimmed with intrigue. “They seemed engrossed in discussion. It appears Elizabeth’s recent leg injury, which she neglected, not only reopened today but also sustained burns. It might even scar!”
Sandra halted, her absent-minded twirling of her fingers ceasing as her focus sharpened. She recalled Oliver mentioning a fire at Elizabeth’s family residence that fateful evening in the dim atmosphere of the club’s private lounge.
It became evident that Elizabeth had likely been present during the calamity.
Meanwhile, Elizabeth was enduring a perilous ordeal, and Elijah had been tending to Sandra, who was dealing with a minor ailment?
A sly smile gradually spread across Sandra’s lips, her gaze tinged with a hint of triumph.
After her departure, Elijah had hurried into matrimony. Initially, Sandra believed it was an impulsive act meant to provoke her, but over time, she began doubting whether Elizabeth truly held any substantial significance in Elijah’s heart.
Reflecting on the past, it seemed Sandra had overestimated Elizabeth’s importance.
Even with a wedding band on his finger, Sandra knew she remained the one who mattered most to him.
With a faint smirk, she dismissed the topic. “Don’t worry about her.” To Sandra, Elizabeth was nothing more than a competitor who had already been defeated.
Sophia, misconstruing the context as purely professional, nodded in agreement. “Absolutely. With Mr. James supporting us, there’s no need to fret about the role. We just need to wait for the good news. By the way, didn’t you mention that Elizabeth and Elijah have been experiencing marital issues?”
Sophia shifted the conversation with precision. “Sandra, think about it. Mr. James is a rare gem; with so many eyes on him, now that there’s a possibility he might be single again, you need to push harder for that divorce and secure your position as Mrs. James.”
Sandra, however, remained silent, her expression thoughtful.
