Chapter 11
I didn’t get what Jonathan had to be mad about. wasn’t even mad, so who gave him the right
to be?
“Why are you glaring at me? You’re the one cozying up to Alicia, and you don’t see me glaring at you!”
Jonathan tugged on my collar, and I ended up being pulled over to him. I stumbled from the force, and before I realized what was happening, I was straddling him.
“Jonathan!”
This was a dangerous position, and it left me with no control.
He held my waist firmly, and his voice was low and impatient. “Don’t move.”
I gritted out, “Jonathan, I’ll sue you for assault if you continue like this!”
He snorted, clearly unbothered. “You can try.
His above–it–all demeanor thoroughly enraged me.
“If you don’t agree to a divorce, Jonathan, we’ll just eventually end up in court!”
His expression darkened instantly, and even the slight trace of mockery was wiped clear off his face. A storm seemed to brew in his eyes, and they were absolutely stifling.
1, however, didn’t flinch. I merely met his gaze head–on.
He seemingly saw the seriousness in my eyes, and his lips pressed into a tight, sharp line.
“Elise, stop threatening me with divorce.”
“It’s not a threat. How many times do I have to tell you that? I genuinely want a divorce!”
Jonathan’s gaze grew dark, and he grabbed onto my chin. “Because of Alicia? How many more times are you going to misread the situation?”
“Misread the situation? When you two were already cozying up to each other? Must I find you two in bed before you’re going to admit it?”
I quickly bit my tongue the moment those words left my mouth, immediately regretting them. I had made it sound like I cared about him.
But I really was just mocking him. After all, the person I liked was my idealized version of Jonathan from my past–the one who was slightly aloof, but still well–mannered -and not this overbearing and heartless douchebag!
Jonathan grabbed onto my wrist, and I gasped in pain, but he completely ignored it.
Chapter
“I don’t want to argue with you right now, Elise.
“If you don’t want to argne, then just go ahead with the divorce!”
Everything I said revolved around a “divorce“, and this only made his expression grow even darker.
“I asked you to wait for me at the Ford residence Why did you come here?”
I sneered. “Well, if I hadn’t come, I wouldn’t have caught that little scene earlier.”
“You came all this way here just to throw a tantrun again?
Again?
From how he said it, it sounded like I often came to his office to make a scene.
Bob had mentioned that I used to work here. Maybe I had taken a job at Millenia just so I could keep an eye on Jonathan.
Goodness. How stupidly in love had I been?
I couldn’t help but give my head a few smacks, and pain shot through my wrist again.
Feelings of both sadness and anger coursed through me, which only made Jonathan appear even more irritating.
“There’s an easy way to get me to stop throwing tantrums–a divorce!”
Jonathan was squeezing my cheeks and forcing my lips into a pout, so I could only mumble, and the word “divorce” came out barely intelligible.
His expression finally eased. “Stop bringing up divorce. I know you’re upset, Elise, but this acquisition deal is important-”
I brushed his hand off before he could finish speaking. “That’s fine. Let’s just get a divorce. After that, you can be as busy as you want. You can even marry Alicia right away!”
His patience had seemed to run out, and he had reached his breaking point.
“You want a divorce? Okay.”
But before I could be excited that he had finally caved, his icy, unfeeling voice continued, According to the prenup, you need to pay me 100 million dollars in compensation first.”
I instantly froze as rage surged through me. “What nonsense are you spewing? When have I ever signed a prenup like that?”
