Chapter 25
Jonathan looked at me with dark eyes. Before I could react, another firm smack fell on my bottom again.
The crisp sound filled me with both fury and shock. He had actually smacked me!
I stared at him in disbelief, my gaze dripping with anger and hatred. I was just about to get up when he pushed me back onto the bed.
He looked at me solemnly and said, something like this. You have to tell me if you’re injured, do you hear me?”
You’re not allowed to brush me off when it comes to
I gritted my teeth and seethed, “Jonathan, do you have trouble understanding simple words?”
I inhaled a deep breath, but before I could say anything more, he seemingly already knew what I was about to say, and he clasped a hand over my mouth.
Then, he lay down behind me and pulled me back into his arms. I couldn’t move, trapped in his embrace.
With an arm wrapped around my waist and his warm breath falling behind my ear, he said, I’ll take you to the hospital to get checked out tomorrow. If nothing’s wrong, then we’ll go to the Ford Manor. Grandpa hasn’t been feeling well lately, so we’ll need to stay with him for a while.”
Grandpa?
Hearing that word suddenly caused a dull ache in my brain.
I had no recollection of such a person, and yet, just hearing that term made me feel extreme discomfort and resistance, and a deep panic spread through me.
Early the next morning, Jonathan took me to the hospital.
When he met with the same doctor from yesterday, I realized that the two were friends.
“We meet again,” Jim White, the doctor, said as he looked at me with a slight smile.
He had been aloof with me yesterday, so his attitude today was rather intriguing.
My heart thumped loudly, and my thoughts became muddled. I quickly avoided his gaze, so I couldn’t tell whether he had noticed something was off about me or not.
Fortunately, he didn’t say much and only gave Jonathan a few instructions.
“There’s nothing majorly wrong with her right now, but-”
1 immediately burst into a cough, interrupting him.
Jim gave me a heavy look, and I looked back at him with a silent plea in my eyes.
He frowned, as if deliberating something in his mind. After a while, he finally said to Jonathan, “It’s nothing serious. You can take her home.”
I immediately let out a sigh of relief.
Jonathan went to get some paperwork, leaving Jim and me staring at each other in his office.
It was a little awkward with just the two of us here, though it hadn’t felt this way yesterday. It could be because Jim had just covered for me, so I was feeling a little self–conscious when looking at him now.
“What’s going through your mind?” he asked suddenly as he looked at me, his finger tapping on the desk
He kept talking in such a cryptic and mysterious manner.
I didn’t want to say too much to him, worried that I’d expose myself, so I just shook my head. and pressed my lips together in silence.
He suddenly let out a small chuckle. “I just helped you hide your secret, and this is how treat me?”
I leaped to my feet, studying him warily.
you
don’t want Jonathan to know how deep the cut on
There was a faint smirk on his face. “Vo your wrist is, so I didn’t tell him. Shouldn’t you be thanking me?”
I pursed my lips tightly before answering, “He knew from the start that I cut my wrists, but he just didn’t believe me and thought that I was messing with him. It’s fine even if you told him; he won’t believe it.”
“Is that so?”
Raising an eyebrow, Jim continued, “He might not have believed you, but if I told him how severe the wound on your wrist was, he’d likely believe me.”
With that, he made a move to stand.
I quickly grabbed onto him. “Don’t…”
