Chapter 34
Until now, he still thought I was just throwing a tantrum. I couldn’t help but wonder how much the old
Elise had loved him.
Even though I had expressed my disgust and determination to divorce countless times, Jonathan still believed I was just making a scene.
I didn’t want to say anything, so I closed my eyes. Since he had already made up his mind that I was just sulking, I didn’t see the point in wasting any more words.
He sighed and pulled me into his arms.
There was no exchange between us.
We lay in the same bed every night, but we were still miles apart in our hearts.
The next morning, I ignored him as usual.
He passed by me, but I treated him like he was invisible.
After a few rounds of this, Jonathan stopped appearing in front of me.
Just when I thought I could have some peace, he brought Gabrielle over.
When I first saw Gabrielle, I didn’t react right away.
It wasn’t until she walked up to me and grabbed my arm that I was surprised. “What are you doing here?” I
asked.
Gabrielle winked at me, then glanced at Jonathan behind her. She lowered her voice and said, “Let’s talk
in your room.”
I nodded and followed her inside.
Just as I was about to step in, Jonathan grabbed my arm and pulled me out.
Gabrielle had been holding me too, but Jonathan’s grip made her release me involuntarily.
I stared at my empty arm and felt a strange emptiness in my chest, though I couldn’t quite describe the feeling. It was unsettling.
Jonathan dragged me to the opposite side of the hall, pinning me against the wall with his intense gaze.
“You seem a lot happier now that she’s here,” he said.
I was puzzled.
“Wasn’t it you who brought her here?”
It was his idea to bring Gabrielle, but now that he saw I was happy to see her, he had an issue with it.

Jonathan clenched his teeth and looked at me coldly.
“She’ll only be here for a while,” he said.
He seemed to have a problem with Gabrielle being around, but still reminded me, “Don’t act up with me
again.”
“Did you bring her here just to shut me up?” I asked with a frown.
Since I woke up with no memory, my feelings about Jonathan had become increasingly complicated. He had once been someone far beyond my reach, but now he was suddenly my husband.
The once–perfect, distant man I admired had turned into a manipulative, emotionally abusive husband in our marriage.
It was a huge blow to me and only deepened my sense of insecurity in this unfamiliar world.
The same handsome face I remembered no longer stirred anything in me.
I felt detached.
In my memories, he had been my unreachable idol, but now, I was thinking only of escaping him.
He lifted a strand of my hair and gave me an oppressive look. “You seemed so happy to see her earlier. Why the cold shoulder when it’s just the two of us?”
His tone was dangerous, and I couldn’t help but feel confused. If not for the Alicia situation, I would have thought he was jealous of Gabrielle’s presence. However, that seemed ridiculous.
Our relationship was clearly falling apart, so how could he possibly be feeling jealous? Gabrielle was my close female friend, and there was no reason for him to feel threatened.
I pushed him away. “You’re right. I really am unhappy when I’m with you.”
Jonathan’s expression darkened, and he trailed his hand from my cheek down to my neck. I could feel the size of his palm, and it gave me an unsettling impression that he could snap my neck at any moment. “Elise, you used to say that just seeing me made you happy.”
