Chapter 40
For some reason, I didn’t doubt anything Gabrielle said. I just trusted her without question.
She led me straight to the wine cellar. When she opened the door, I was so stunned that my mouth
dropped open.
“Is this a winery?” I asked in disbelief.
Gabrielle smiled. “You really forgot everything. There was a time when you and Jonathan were close. He personally taught you how to make wine. This winery was even designed especially for you.”
Her words felt distant and strange to me.
I rubbed my temples. “Didn’t you say we didn’t get along? I almost tried to kill myself because of him. How
could we have been close?”
Gabrielle’s eyes flickered for a moment before she composed herself and said, “That was right after you got married. You two were doing well back then. It wasn’t until Alicia showed up that the fights began.”
She paused, then added, “Honestly, that makes sense. If you hadn’t liked each other at all in the beginning, you wouldn’t have gotten married.”
“I really want to know why I married Jonathan in the first place,” I said, looking at her in confusion. “We barely even knew each other.”
Back then, I had secretly liked Jonathan but never had the courage to make a move.
I was just like many other girls who admired him from afar. I could only watch him from a distance because I knew I wasn’t the wealthy, beautiful type.
Gabrielle shook her head. “I don’t know how you two met, but when you started dating, you already planned to get married. You even sent me an invitation.”
“Oh,” I murmured.
“Why don’t you ask Jonathan?” Gabrielle suggested.
I shook my head. “That’s impossible. If I ask him, he’ll realize I lost my memory, and the divorce will get complicated.”
Gabrielle nodded. “That’s true…”
She held my arm and walked inside. “Pick whatever you want. There are lots of wines in here that you and Jonathan made together. I heard you even registered a brand, but it was just for fun.”
I couldn’t help but sigh. “He really is rich…”
Gabrielle nodded. “I heard this wine cellar alone is worth 200 million dollars.”
I stared at her with my mouth wide open. “What? 200 million dollars? If I have to give Jonathan 100 million dollars for our divorce, and this winery is worth 200 million dollars, then he’s clearly not after my
money
As I stepped further Inside, I was completely blown away. The cellar was nearly as big as a small villa. Bottles of every kind and shape filled the endless rows,
I walked over to a safe and felt a strange mix of familiarity and distance.
“What’s wrong?” Gabrielle asked, walking toward me
I’shook my head. “This wine is called First Love?“.
I read the label beside it. The elegant golden script made it seem solemn and sacred: The bottle was even locked inside a safe.
“I’ll take this one,” I said, “It must be high–end. I’ll give it to Frederick. He’ll probably accept it.”
Gabrielle looked at me in surprise. “Are you sure?”
“Why?”
I glanced at her, sensing she was hesitant.
She lowered her voice and said, “Jonathan gave you that wine and locked it in the safe for a reason. It must mean something important. Are you sure you don’t want to tell him?”
I raised an eyebrow. “If I tell him, do you think I can still give it away?”
I shrugged. “If he gets mad and divorces me over this, that works out perfectly for me.”
Gabrielle stared at me silently and sighed. “You really have changed since your memory loss. Even your personality has changed.”
I couldn’t help but reply, “Why don’t you just say I changed after marrying Jonathan? I’m just back to being myself now.”
I didn’t care if Jonathan got upset. If he was angry, then so be it–let him divorce me. He had been the one hurting me freely in this marriage.
Why couldn’t I follow my own heart?
I had already faced death once. Now, there was nothing left to fear.
