I was Jonathan’s legitimate wife. Even though I was sitting right in front of them, they acted like I was
invisible.
Everyone was busy sucking up to Alicia. It was pretty obvious that keeping Alicia happy was the only way to stay on Jonathan’s good side.
Even the outsiders knew Alicia was the one Jonathan cared about the most. Calling myself his wife was a
joke. I had never felt so powerless and small.
But I just didn’t get it. Why wouldn’t Jonathan divorce me already?
Brenda eagerly held Alicia’s hand. Alicia looked over at Jonathan and pressed her lips together.
As always, she played the part of the bigger person in front of everyone and nodded. “I’m feeling a lot better now. The doctors said it might not even leave a scar.”
Brenda sighed. “Even so, you should take care. A pretty face means a lot for a woman.”
Alicia nodded, and Brenda gazed at her with an affectionate look. “I watched you all grow up, and I’ve always treated you like my own daughter, Alicia. If Fred ever gives you trouble, come to me. I’ll make sure to set him straight.”
Alicia sat sweetly next to Jonathan, carrying herself with the grace of a proper young lady throughout the conversation. “Thanks a lot, Mrs. Guzman.”
Frederick snorted off to the side. Jeffrey couldn’t stand it and scolded him, “Look at you. You have no manners and just keep wasting time on that stupid bar of yours. Why can’t you be more like Jonathan? “Jonathan is the example you should all be looking up to. I would be happy if the rest of you were even half as good.”
Frederick’s expression immediately darkened. “Why the hell are you comparing me to him?”
Jeffrey grunted. “You’re right. I shouldn’t compare you to him because he’s way out of your league.”
He was tearing Frederick down with almost every word. At that moment, I understood why Frederick turned out so rebellious.
Brenda immediately tried to diffuse the situation, holding Alicia’s hand. “Fred was in the wrong here. I’ve already straightened him out.”
She looked a little diffident. “Can you just let Fred off the hook this time for my sake?”
Alicia hesitated, stealing a glance at Jonathan. She wasn’t going to speak up unless Jonathan said
something.
Seeing this, Jeffrey kicked Frederick and shoved him in front of Jonathan. “Say sorry to her.”
Frederick looked absolutely furious. “I won’t. I would rather die than apologize to her.”
Chapter 50
After saying that, he turned and walked away. As he walked past me, he glanced my way. His expression was a mix of emotions, and a faint red glint flickered in his eyes.
I watched his unyielding figure walk away, unable to put my feelings into words. I didn’t look away until he disappeared down the hallway.
However, when I turned around, I immediately saw Jonathan staring at me without blinking. Her gaze was cold, and I knew he had seen exactly how I was looking at Frederick.
I felt a twinge of guilt for a split second, but it vanished just as fast. Then, I met Jonathan’s gaze head–on.” What?”
He had flaunted his relationship with Alicia out in the open, so what if I had gotten a little close to Frederick? If he couldn’t handle it, then he should have divorced me.
I shot Jonathan a defiant look, but he didn’t even flinch.
He withdrew his gaze and turned to Alicia. “Forgive him if you feel like it. It’s all up to you.” Jonathan really pampered Alicia.
