Chapter 67
I could hardly believe what I was hearing.
Hadn’t I always acted timid and obedient around Jonathan and Mr. Ford Senior? If I loved him so humbly, how would ! ever have the guts to slap Alicia?
“You really don’t remember?” Aria tilted her head, not picking up on how thrown I was. She shrugged and glanced at me.
“It was Mr. Ford Senior’s birthday. You two were there celebrating his 80th. Then Alicia showed up. I don’t know the whole story–everyone has a different version–but what’s clear is that you slapped her across the face. Right there. In front of everyone.
“Mr. Ford Senior lost it and threatened to make Jonathan divorce you.”
She kept going, oblivious. “I’m not sure how it got smoothed over, but Jonathan managed to bury the incident. You two stayed married, but after that, no one really saw you acting like a couple anymore…
“Things between you two got really cold after that day.”
Even though Aria was rambling, nothing she said gave me any real answers. But one thing was clear- there had to be more to my marriage with Jonathan than anyone knew. And I didn’t exactly have anyone I could ask.
Probably only Jonathan and I really knew what went down back then. But I couldn’t risk him finding out I’d lost my memory.
“…Why does it seem like you don’t remember anything?” Aria suddenly leaned in, sniffing me like a bloodhound.
I shoved her away. “What are you, a dog? You think you can sniff out anything?”
Even Frederick frowned as he looked at me, his expression unreadable but sharp.
He was too perceptive, and I didn’t want to hang around long enough for him to figure anything out.
“I should go. We can talk another time.”
“Wait, that’s it? You’re just gonna leave? Don’t you have anything to say to me?” Aria pouted, blocking my path. “We haven’t seen each other in forever. Are you seriously treating me like a stranger now?”

“Fine, go then…” she muttered. She seemed a little reluctant to see me go.
I couldn’t help but wonder–what exactly was my relationship with these two siblings?
I had no memory of Frederick at all, yet Gabrielle once told me he used to have a thing for me. That he
even confessed, and I shot him down hard.

And from the way he acted now, I could tell he wasn’t completely indifferent. But he definitely had some lingering resentment.
Aria was a total enigma. She acted like we were super close, even though she constantly insulted me. Still, underneath all that, there was a weird kind of familiarity, like we were close.
I had barely walked out the door when she called after me, clearly still fuming. “That Verdant Bloom? I will get it back!”
She was obviously talking to Frederick, so I didn’t stick around. I picked up the pace.
“You and Aria–wait. You don’t remember her either?” Gabrielle asked as she hurried out of the Millenia Corporation and jumped into the car.
I nodded. “You sound like you know her pretty well?”
For a split second, I thought I saw something sly flash across her face. But it was gone just as fast.
She quickly composed herself and said seriously, “It’s… complicated. I think you two started off on decent terms. Her brother liked you, so she tolerated you. But once you turned him down? She started coming for you. Same crowd as Alicia, really. Always looking for drama.”
