Grayson had left for Gianna, and I grabbed his arm, asking, “Do you really have to go? Today
is our third wedding anniversary.”
“Eleanor, try to be reasonable. Gianna’s husband died in an accident, and she’s upset!”
He pulled my hand off of his, and I sneered. It had been three years since her husband’s
death, yet she was still upset.
“Why don’t you go comfort her then? Grayson, if you go, it’s over between us!”
Right now, divorce was considered shameful, but I wasn’t afraid.
Grayson’s face flushed with anger. “Whatever! You have no sympathy! How did I end up marrying such a cold–hearted woman like you?”
Fury boiled inside me. As he turned away, I grabbed a chair and smashed the window!
The sound of shattering glass echoed. Grayson froze in his tracks.
“You’re crazy!”
I walked to the door, raising my voice. “Yes, I am crazy! What kind of woman is always thinking about other’s husband? If you like her so much, I would let you have her! Grayson, once you step out this door, we’re getting a divorce! So you can finally be free of me!”
me.”
Grayson’s face turned beet red with anger, and the neighbors began gathering around.
Gianna, standing next door, timidly stepped out, her eyes brimming with tears.
“Eleanor, please don’t misunderstand. I was just feeling down, and Grayson came to comfort
I gave a sneer. “When have you ever been in a good mood? Last month, when you were feeling down, Grayson bought you a watch! A couple of weeks ago, when you were feeling down, Grayson went to the movies with you! Last week, when you were feeling down, Grayson cooked for you to cheer you up! And now, my legally married husband doesn’t even care about me! Today is our wedding anniversary, and he’s running off to comfort you! Why don’t you two just
move in together?”
I shot her a glare and pushed Grayson toward the door. “Go ahead, comfort her!”
I slammed the door shut, leaving him outside.
I could hear the neighbors talking, and Grayson started knocking on the door, but I didn’t respond. After a moment, he stomped his foot and turned to leave.
I snorted.
The only reason I could act so boldly today was that I had been reborn.
In my past life, I bottled up my anger. Grayson left me again and again until I was left to die
alone, heartbroken.
They had stepped all over my lifeless body to be together, laughing at me for being
dramatic.
This time, I wouldn’t tolerate him.
If he wanted to go and comfort his precious Gianna, he could. But I was going to expose
everything and see how they faced each other afterward.

Grayson didn’t come home that night, and I wasn’t in a rush. The next morning, I found
Gianna pale and glaring at me with resentment when she saw me.

I ignored her and went straight to the Research Center to talk to the director, Adam Parrish. I
requested to go to the front lines to research seeds.
Adam looked at me in surprise. “Eleanor, are you sure? Didn’t you say you were planning to have kids? Does your husband agree?”
“I can make my own decisions. He’s an active participant at the factory, so he’ll definitely
support me.”
“Mr. Parrish, our research progress here is at a standstill. I’ve been thinking, to truly solve
the problem, we need to start from the grassroots level. Echo Ridge is the perfect place. All our
projects are there. I want to contribute and help solve the current issues as quickly as possible.”
Adam thought for a moment before agreeing. “Alright, get ready. You’ll leave in a week. It
might be years before you come back, so make sure to talk to your family.”
I nodded and turned to leave.
When I got home, Grayson still wasn’t back. The house felt empty, and the happiness stickers
on the window had already faded.
When I married Grayson, I had believed he was a loyal and caring man, always looking out
for his colleagues. I thought he was reliable.
job.
But after marrying him, I learned he only treated certain colleagues that way.
I soon realized there was someone else in his heart.
Gianna had lost her husband.
Grayson was always checking in on her, helping her use connections to keep her husband’s
He even worried that her salary wouldn’t be enough, so he gave her thirty dollars every
month, though he only had forty dollars himself.
I disagreed with him, but he impatiently said, “Our family isn’t struggling. You still have your
salary. Gianna’s different. She’s alone, and her in–laws are greedy!”
But everyone knew that Gianna’s husband had died in a work accident, and the factory had
paid out a large sum as compensation.
Her in–laws were simple country people who didn’t get a penny.
I used to argue with him about it, but not anymore.
I packed my bags, took out my documents, and decided to confront him.
Grayson didn’t come back until 10 p.m. When he saw the marriage certificate on the table, he asked, “What’s this? Why aren’t you sleeping at this hour?”
Before I could say anything, he snapped, “Put it away! What if she sees it? You’ll only make
her sad!”
I couldn’t help but sneer inside. “If I wanted to do that, I’d have shown it to her already. Grayson, whose husband are you? You run at the slightest word from her. This home is just a guesthouse to you, isn’t it? Enough with the nonsense! We’re getting a divorce!”

At my words, Grayson’s face turned dark. “Eleanor, don’t make a scene! She’s just in a bad
mood. I’m trying to comfort her!”
“Comfort her? If she really wanted to die, she’d have had countless chances by now. Only you, Grayson, are foolish enough to let her lead you around! Anyway, if you won’t divorce me, I would sue! Tomorrow I would go to your factory and use a loudspeaker to ask who’s spending all their time at a widow’s house!”
Grayson’s face turned pale with anger. “You’re completely unreasonable!”
I didn’t get angry. I just laughed coldly. “Yeah, I’m unreasonable. So, how much longer do you
plan on putting up with me? You married me, remember? I wasn’t begging for you. Grayson, after we got married, did you ever cared about our family? Look around, what in this house have
you arranged? When I curled my hair, you ignored me. When Gianna put a hairpin in, you praised her. My mom got sick, and you visited her and left. Gianna catches a cold, and you’re there with water and medicine, running around.”
I sniffed, feeling an overwhelming emptiness in my heart.
“Marriage isn’t something I’m doing alone. Since you can’t let go of her, why keep dragging
me down?”
I turned my back to him and said in a low voice, “Divorce. I’m serious.”
Grayson was silent for a long time before finally saying, “I don’t want a divorce.”
I didn’t expect him to refuse, even after everything.
But it didn’t matter. There was only one week left.
Without me around, Gianna would have plenty of chances.
At that point, they were alone together. I couldn’t believe Grayson wouldn’t be moved.
Not to mention, he had already fallen for her.
The next morning, as soon as I woke up, I heard sweeping outside the door.
I got up and saw Grayson sweeping the floor.
The sun must’ve risen in the west. He was actually doing housework.
I ignored him and made myself some eggs and soup.
There was none for him.
Grayson walked in, stunned by the scene.
I looked up at him. “I bought the eggs. Your salary went to Gianna, so if you want some, go
ask her.”
We’d been married for three years, and there was no savings in this house.
My money wasn’t going to support a biased man.
Just then, someone entered the room. It was Isla Anthony from next door.
“Are both of you here? Eleanor, my sister–in–law sent some dried fruit for you, two pounds to help your health. Look at your face. You can’t be careless.”
Isla put the fruit down and turned to Grayson. “Grayson, I’m not trying to meddle, but
Eleanor’s been working hard for this family without much appreciation. As her husband, you
should care more about her. Look at Gianna, her face is all rosy. And then look at your wife! Tsk!”
Isla couldn’t stand any longer.

Grayson looked upset, and when he saw me, a trace of guilt appeared in his eyes. I smiled and thanked Isla before sending her out.
I spotted Gianna standing a little farther away, hesitating whether to come in.
Isla gave her a quick look and said to me, “Eleanor, don’t be mad at her. It’s not worth it! That b*tch, all she does is seduce men. When Grayson finally figures things out, he’ll come around.”
I felt calm inside. I was done with Grayson. Whether or not he figured things out was no
longer my concern.
After Isla left, Gianna hesitated and walked up to me.
“Eleanor, whether you believe me or not, Grayson and I are just friends. I…”
“Gianna, everything you’re wearing and carrying is paid for by my family. You have three days to return it all, or I’ll go to Mr. Parrish, to the women’s association, or to the police! I swear, I
won’t back down!”
Gianna’s face went pale instantly. “You! This was a gift from Grayson!”
“Did Grayson not tell you? Every penny he spends belongs to both of us as a couple! Over these three years, he’s given you a total of a thousand dollars in cash, plus various gifts, which add up to about one thousand five hundred dollars! If you don’t return it, I would sue!”
I was leaving anyway, and I needed that money back.
Right now, women like Gianna could end up in jail.
I wasn’t going to let her get away with it.
Grayson stepped out just then, and Gianna rushed toward him.
“Grayson…”
“Gianna, you… you should give that back!”
“What?” Gianna was completely stunned.
I gave him a side glance, then turned and packed my things. I was heading to the factory.
It was better to file the complaint sooner rather than later. I didn’t want anyone beating me
to it.
As I left, Grayson tried to follow, but Gianna stopped him.
I wasn’t angry. I just went straight to the steel factory.
Grayson was a top performer at the factory, and if he didn’t care about his reputation,
neither did I.
I handed Adam a list and said a few words before I broke down in tears.
Adam was shocked, his face darkening as he listened.
“Eleanor, you’ve been wronged. The money, I would make sure she returns it. But the
divorce…”
“Mr. Parrish, I’ve already applied for a transfer to the Echo Ridge Research Center subsidiary. If I don’t divorce him, it’ll only hold him back. Besides, he didn’t love me anymore. Why should I force it? I just want to get what’s mine, nothing more.”
“When do you leave?” Adam was surprised.
“In six days. I want to leave without any more trouble.”

I looked at Adam. He was a military man, and he hated this kind of drama.
Grayson was someone Adam had high hopes for, but now he couldn’t believe how clueless
he was.
He sighed. “Think carefully. Divorce is a big deal. Does Grayson know about your move to
Echo Ridge?”
Before I could answer, I heard a loud voice.
“Eleanor, I’m not getting a divorce! What did you say? Going where?”
“I want a divorce, Mr. Parrish. Think carefully about what I just said!”
“No need to think. I don’t agree!” Grayson shouted angrily.
Just then, Gianna came in, already crying.
“Eleanor, you’re trying to drive me crazy! My husband already died. Grayson just helped me! Now you want me to return the money. How am I supposed to come up with that much? I might as well kill myself!”
I coldly watched her drama unfold, my tone calm. “Then go ahead, I actually respect that! Grayson, you’ve given her your paycheck, and you still want to stay with me? You’re not just disgusting, you’re pathetic! If you want things to get to the police, keep this up!”
Gianna immediately screamed and threw herself against the wall!
