I couldn’t help but laugh. “Grayson, there’s no need. I have a place to stay, and I don’t need
you to find me a job.”
“Eleanor, you don’t have to be polite. I really want to help you. After you left back then, we
hadn’t seen each other for so many years. Now you’re… well…”
He looked me up and down, probably thinking I was dressed too plainly, too thin and dark–skinned, assuming my life wasn’t going well.
I glanced at him, about to speak, when I suddenly heard the sound of a car approaching
from behind.
The car stopped. The people from the Research Center and Noah had arrived.
“Ms. Berry, we’re here to pick you up. Mr. Parrish is heading to the fields tomorrow, so it’s
easier with a car.”
Grayson was shocked.
“You’re still at the Research Center?”
“Yes.”
The Research Center staff came over. “Of course, Eleanor is here to guide us. It’s a rare opportunity to have her come from the Echo Ridge Research Center!”
Grayson was speechless, his face darkened. I smiled and nodded at him. “I’m leaving now. Goodbye.”
As I got in the car, I could see Grayson still standing there, frozen. He probably didn’t expect I’d come back to guide the team.
The next morning, I dived into the busy work of teaching and helping to form the research team with Noah and the others. I was going to stay for three months, enough time for them to learn and successfully cultivate the seeds. We were getting more experienced every day.
But just when I was busy guiding the team, Gianna caused a scene at the Research Center and even reported that I was ruining her family.
When I heard the news, I was taken aback. Noah, who was beside me, was furious. “What is she talking about? Ms. Berry, you’re out in the fields or the lab every day. How could you have time to destroy anyone’s family? She can’t control her own man and now she’s blaming others! What’s her deal?”
I patted him and smiled. “It’s fine. Don’t worry about it. I’m sure Mr. Parrish and the others will
handle it.”
Just as I expected, when Gianna came to file her complaint, the leaders were all present. The breakthrough in wheat seed cultivation had attracted a lot of attention from higher–ups. Jayden had even gone to the capital to report on the progress.
As one of the main contributors to the team, I was also nominated.
This agricultural development was directly related to the well–being of the people, so when Gianna tried to slander me, the leaders overheard. After learning the details, they immediately called the police. Gianna was arrested, and they informed the factory as well.

The factory, which had just gone through restructuring, found a perfect reason to fire her. She
had always been unproductive at work, had a bad reputation, and with this incident, they had all the grounds to let her go.
Back then, the combined income of their family of three wasn’t enough to make ends meet.
Now, their situation had become even tighter. She finally realized I wasn’t someone she could
afford to cross.
I found out about this three months later. Just as I was leaving the Research Center with
Noah and the others, ready to head back, Gianna suddenly rushed out of the crowd!
“Eleanor, I would give him back to you! Can you give me my job back? I’m done with this. I don’t want him anymore, alright?”
Grayson followed behind her, his face dark. I looked at them expressionlessly, saying
nothing.
The police stopped her and took her for questioning. Only then did Gianna realize how
serious it was.
She couldn’t have everything she wanted. When I no longer wanted him and gave him up, she should’ve treasured what I had left.
When I returned to Echo Ridge, I recommended Noah for further studies. Now that the country was developing rapidly, it was a crucial time for talented people. Rooting oneself at the grassroots was tough, but they also had to learn more advanced knowledge.
