Chapter 4
Henry’s expression darkened, and his hands clenched tight at his sides. “Edith!”
He didn’t expect that the gentle Edith he had in his mind was merely an act.
Her only purpose was to deceive him for money.
Although he had no money, it was true that Edith had tricked him.
Edith skillfully extinguished her cigarette and looked over.
She hung up the phone.
Knowing she had been overheard, she didn’t bother to pretend
anymore.
“Henry, let’s break up.”
She tossed the cigarette butt into the trash can and turned to leave.
Henry quickly caught up and grabbed her hand. “Edith, what do you mean?”
I raised my eyebrow, thinking Henry was really something.

He had just asked his ex–wife for money and was now tangled up with his mistress.
I glanced at my phone. There were 15 minutes left until work started.
I didn’t want to watch them argue any longer, so I grabbed my bag and hurried to the office.
Fortunately, I clocked in at the last minute.
On my way home from work, I didn’t see Henry again but spotted Jasper.
He was squatting under my apartment building with a backpack, looking around.
I felt annoyed. Henry and Jasper were truly relentless.
I planned to enter through another door, but Jasper noticed me.
“Mom!” Hearing him call out stopped me in my tracks.
Jasper seized the opportunity and appeared in front of me while clutching his backpack.
I gave him a half–smile. “Did you just call me Mom? If I remember correctly, you said Edith was your mom.
“You also said that after the divorce, no one would want me.‘
Jasper’s face flushed red, but then he put on a pitiful expression.

In the past, he only did this when he wanted something from me.
“Mom, I was wrong.” Jasper puffed out his cheeks, indignantly stating. “Edith is a bad woman!”
He told me Edith had fallen out with Henry.
She took away all the valuable things from their home and ran off with another man.

After Jasper finished speaking, I casually replied, “So, what does that have to do with me?”
Jasper shrugged his shoulders, looking quite defeated. “Mom, don’t you want me anymore?”
He rolled up his sleeves. “I broke out in a rash after the sports meet…”
I glanced at him without speaking.
If it had been before, I might have felt soft–hearted seeing him look so pathetic.
But now I felt indifferent, even a bit annoyed.
“Mom…”
Seeing him reach out to grab me, I took a step back.

Jasper looked hurt.
“If you came looking for me because of the 50 thousand dollars for the outdoor study, then please go back.
“Except for the legally mandated child support, I won’t give you a single extra cent.”
Jasper’s eyes widened in shock. “You’re this cruel? I’m your biological son. Are you doing this for that illegitimate child?
“As long as you are willing to come back, I wouldn’t mind your infidelity or that illegitimate child.”
So, in his mind, I was the kind of immoral woman who cheated.
My expression darkened.
At that moment, a clear, youthful voice rang out behind me. “Mom.”
I turned back in confusion to find Andy, who had been waiting for me at home.
He called out again, “Mom.”
I didn’t understand what was going on. “You…”
“I saw you hadn’t come back for a long time, so I came down to get you.”
Andy walked over, taking my hand as he led me to the elevator.

Suddenly, Jasper erupted, shoving Andy to the ground.
He was furious, his face reddening. “You bastard, get away! You don’t deserve to call her Mom!”
