In the days that followed, my life returned to tranquility. I began to take over the company’s project operations, becoming much busier.
Previously, I had willingly given up my family’s business to accompany Lucas as he started from scratch. Although it felt like unnecessary hardship, it had solidly trained my management and execution abilities.
At first, the company’s employees thought I was a parachuted figurehead CEO, but they soon discovered that I was already familiar with various rules of business operations.
I also began to integrate my past resources and cultivate my core team.
As it turned out, without my love–blinded mindset, I could fully open up new horizons in the business world.
My spirit visibly recovered. At a celebration party for winning an order from a Fortune 500 client, I was in such a good mood that I even started
singing.
After I withdrew my equity, Lucas’s company’s cash flow and financial status deteriorated. He could only seek new investments again.
But he seemed unable to handle things with ease as he had before.
Maintaining relationships with clients and suppliers had largely relied on my assistance before, and the management of internal compliance was always a thankless task he liked to delegate to others.
It was evident that he was starting to feel the strain.
Despite being busy, he didn’t forget to keep contacting me. When he couldn’t reach me by phone or social media, he would call from unknown
numbers, and even resorted to the most traditional method of writing letters.
I didn’t read a single word, not caring about his well–being at all.
A few months later, I received news that they had broken up.
With things getting so out of hand, Tessa seemed to have lost her mind. She had a “nothing to lose” mentality, insisting on forcing Lucas to marry her, or else she would continue to make trouble.
Lucas originally wanted to settle the matter quietly by giving her a sum of money to send her away, but Tessa used her heart condition as an excuse and made a scene at Lucas’s hometown.
Lucas’s parents lived in the countryside with traditional and conservative mindsets.
They had thought their son was successful in his career and had married a rich girl, which would bring honor to the family. They never expected a mistress with a heart condition to show up at their door.
Faced with Tessa’s persistence, Lucas’s parents could only shut their doors and refuse to see her, but Tessa wouldn’t give up.
She went as far as to make the issue public on local news, causing Lucas’s family to lose face among their neighbors.
Lucas, left with no choice and in a desperate attempt to destroy everything, invited Tessa’s parents back from abroad, hoping they could discipline their daughter.
However, after all this turmoil, their previous relationship had completely fallen apart.
When Tessa’s father saw what his daughter had done, he was furious. He ordered her to break up with Lucas immediately and prepared to take her abroad for surgery.

But Tessa firmly resisted. When her parents divorced years ago, neither side wanted her. She didn’t want to be controlled by her family and insisted on clinging to Lucas.
At this point, Lucas had reached his limit of tolerance.
However, Tessa made an even more insane move.
Once, when Lucas fell asleep drunk, Tessa took the opportunity to feed him antibiotics, attempting to induce acute heart failure.
Fortunately, Lucas was in a deep sleep and didn’t consume much. He was rushed to the hospital and saved in time.
When Lucas’s family learned about this, they were furious and filed a lawsuit in court.
After a long tug–of–war, the verdict was finally delivered.
Tessa was sentenced to three years in prison for intentional harm.
So I took the opportunity to claim compensation from them for the losses of my premarital property and personal items that he had given to her without my consent.
That jade bracelet, I heard she had sold it long ago. It doesn’t matter, I’m just that vindictive.
