Ethan was completely thrown off balance, both figuratively and literally. Being kicked out of his own bed was something he’d never imagined.
Rising from the floor, his eyes burned with irritation as he spat her name between clenched teeth, “Jessica Clark!”
Jessica propped herself up on the bed, tilting her head slightly, her smile teasing. “Here I am! What’s the matter? Are you planning to toss me out of the bed too, Mr. Clark?”
Ethan stared at her, torn between anger and exasperation. “Very well,” he said slowly, his voice low and threatening, before storming off toward the walk-in closet.
After rummaging through the closet, he realized there were no spare blankets. His face darkened further as he returned to the sofa, empty-handed and visibly frustrated.
The sofa, while stylish and comfortable for sitting, was only five feet long. At six feet two inches tall, Ethan found himself awkwardly contorted as he attempted to lie down.
Meanwhile, Jessica sprawled comfortably across the large bed, flipping over nonchalantly.

Jessica’s phone buzzed on the nightstand, and she answered it with mild curiosity. “Liam?”
Liam Yates’s cheerful voice came through. “Jessica, Abigail was asking about you again. She wants to know when you’re coming to visit her.”
“I’ll stop by tomorrow,” Jessica assured him. “And tell her not to worry about the divorce. Everything’s under control, and I’ll finalize it tomorrow.”
From the sofa, Ethan’s ears perked up at her words, his brow arching slightly.
On the line, Liam chuckled. “Great! Once it’s finalized, we’re celebrating. I’ll book a club and hire five gigolos to entertain you.”
Jessica didn’t miss a beat. “Two will suffice.”
There was a pause before she added thoughtfully, “Do you remember the gigolo from last time? He had a great build and good looks. Maybe get him again.”
Ethan’s jaw tightened, his forehead creasing. His expression darkened as her words sank in.
Liam laughed on the other end. “Got it! I’ll make sure the lineup is top-notch.”
As if recalling something, Liam added, “Oh, by the way, Ryan from the Adams family has been asking about you. I think he’s interested.”
Jessica raised an eyebrow, a sly smile tugging at her lips. “Ryan, huh? Interesting.”
Pausing briefly, she continued, “If he asks again, give him my number—but don’t tell him my name.”
Liam sounded confused. “Why not?”
“I need to ask him something,” she replied simply.
“Got it,” Liam said before their conversation wrapped up.

As Jessica set her phone down and reached to turn off the light, Ethan’s voice cut through the silence, dripping with sarcasm. “It seems your life overseas was rather… vivid.”
Jessica turned to him, her expression unbothered. “Had you shown up on time at the courthouse three years ago, Mr. Clark, my life overseas might’ve been far more thrilling.”
