Chapter 5
At that moment, Holly was dumbfounded.
A couple, once married, should share a special connection. However, although their marriage lasted for two years, Jasper disregarded her life like it was nothing.
She wanted to fight back, but Jasper held her down with a firm grip. Unable to resist, she fell into a hazy state of mind and eventually fell unconscious.
When Holly opened her eyes, she was lying on a hospital bed. She didn’t think she’d still be alive. After all, the moment she blacked out, she’d even had flashbacks of her life, like someone on her deathbed.
And she wasn’t totally wrong about that. When the nurse saw that she had regained consciousness, she let out a long breath of relief.
“Thank
goodness! Are you finally awake? How are you feeling? Do you feel any discomfort? You donated a total of 40 ounces of blood and almost lost your life. If you feel something is wrong, you must tell me.”
All Holly felt was a deep sense of exhaustion. She shook her head. “I’m fine.”
She stayed in the hospital for three days. Jasper never visited, not even once. Nadine was the only one who texted her every day, showing off nonstop.
She flaunted the expensive jewelry Jasper bought her. She sent Holly videos of Jasper feeding her medicine and massaging her legs. She sent her photos of her and Jasper’s hands, fingers intertwined, as they slept together.
Holly read each and every one of her messages. Her heart pounded, but it no longer ached. It seemed she was about to move on.
On the day she was discharged from the hospital, she took care of the discharge procedures on her own.
She had just reached home when she received a gathering invitation from her friend. Thinking that she might never come back after going abroad, she wanted to bid them farewell. agreed to attend.

In the evening, when she arrived at the clubhouse, she realized there were more attendees than she’d expected. Her close friends, coursemates, roommates, and even lecturers from her college days were there.
And the one at the center of attention was none other than Nadine.
The moment her gaze fell on Nadine, Holly instantly knew Nadine was the one who organized the gathering.

It was true. Not knowing all that had happened between her and Nadine, her friends led her in as they explained, “Holly, Naddy organized this gathering and invited many of our old friends, so I hit you up.”
Holly wouldn’t want to spoil the mood before all those people, so she sat in a corner.
Nadine approached her with a smug look and a glass of wine in her hand. “Aunt… Oh, no! I forgot you and Jasper are divorced. Holly, look at you. We’ve been roommates for four years, yet you didn’t tell me when you got a divorce.
“I could’ve helped you put in a word with Jasper so he’d have given you some compensation. You wouldn’t have to work so hard then. I heard you took up more than a dozen side jobs every week and even had to sell your blood.”
Her words fell like a bombshell. Everyone in the room perked up their ears and looked at Holly
in disbelief.
Those who didn’t like Holly started snickering and speaking in a sarcastic tone.
“She was dumped after only two years? I told you beggars wouldn’t become princesses matter how hard they tried to.”
“The Price family would still have some assets left even if they had gone bankrupt. They must have seen through that materialistic woman and kicked her out without giving her a single penny.”
“She’d always boasted about her wits and even said she’d further her studies abroad to be an interpreter. Turns out she’s just a bringer of misfortune! She ends up washing dishes and delivering takeouts every day. She won’t have a chance to use those eight languages she’s fluent in at all!”
Holly remained silent as they blatantly mocked and ridiculed her.
She stopped her friends who wished to stand up for her. Leading them to the restroom, she told them in private that she was going abroad.
Her friends were happy for her and wished her well.
When they returned to the private room, everyone’s attention was now on Nadine.
‘Naddy, your ring is gorgeous. How much does it cost? You have it on your ring finger, so does that mean you’re married? Who’s your husband?”
Nadine raised her hand and gracefully showed it to everyone. “It cost a few billion dollars, I think. I didn’t ask my husband its exact price.
“Anyway, he custom–made this wedding ring forme eight years ago when he went to Eustania. He designed it himself. He also picked this diamond personally. It’s one of its kind.”
Admiration glowed in everyone’s eyes. They were deeply moved.

“Oh, dear! Is it that expensive? Naddy, when’s the wedding? Your husband loves you dearly. I believe your wedding will be truly grand.”
“He prepared my wedding gown and ring himself, so I don’t have to bother about those. As for the wedding, I’m thinking of holding a private one and inviting only my family and close friends. I may not be able to invite all of you, but will send you all wedding favors timely.
As Nadine boasted, she glanced at Holly with a meaningful smile. She continued, “Still, I need one more bridesmaid. Holly, could you attend my wedding as my bridesmaid? Jasper will be there.”
Holly knew she said that on purpose. Looking down, she calmed herself down. Then, in a
composed manner, she said, “Congratulations, but I’m quite busy. I won’t be attending your wedding.”
Right after she said that, the door to the private room opened. Jasper looked around with a stern gaze. “What wedding?”
